While there is a chill in the air this holiday weekend, most of the Top 5 teams from the weekly Trib HSSN state softball rankings from a week ago enjoyed district playoff success in search of local gold.

Only four teams lost their mojo and their spot in the Top 5, including two teams from Class 2A as Pine Grove and Southern Huntingdon replaced Cochranton and Williams Valley.

In 3A, Susquenita entered at No. 5 as Forest Hills dropped out.

The biggest drop was in 6A as South Western went from No. 1 to out of the Top 5.

Hempfield from the WPIAL takes over the top spot in 6A as the Spartans prepare for their district title game against No. 4 Seneca Valley.

In 4A, Northwestern Lehigh also lost its grip on the top spot, replaced by Tunkhannock.

The other top-ranked teams continue to shine with Central Mountain in 5A, Sharon in 3A, Neshannock in 2A and Carmichaels in A all still at No. 1.
