TribLive HSSN will live video stream WPIAL basketball, swimming, wrestling championships

The TribLive High School Sports Network will stream live video of the WPIAL boys and girls basketball championships this winter, as well as the WPIAL swimming championships and the WPIAL Class 2A individual wrestling finals.

The WPIAL announced the partnership Monday.

As part of the deal, PCN will televise tape-delayed two TribLive HSSN wrestling broadcasts statewide.

“This school year we have made a concentrated effort to maximize the visibility of our championship events,” WPIAL executive director Tim O’Malley said. “It will be the first time that some of our wrestling will be televised statewide, we expect move than 100,000 fans to view our boys and girls basketball championships and thousands more to watch swimming.

“We are grateful to HSSN and PCN for their willingness to partner with us on these winter championship events. In the end partnerships like this will help us with our ongoing mission of providing a positive experience for our kids.”

The WPIAL basketball finals are Feb. 28-March 2 at Petersen Events Center. A year ago, the TribLive HSSN video streams of the basketball championships totaled more than 100,000 views. The WPIAL swimming championships are Feb. 28-March 1 at Pitt’s Trees Pool. The WPIAL Class 2A individual wrestling finals are Feb. 16 at Canon-McMillan.

“Championship season is such an exciting time,” HSSN general manager Justin Labar said. “We’re thrilled to provide live and archived coverage fans can access from any devices.”

PCN will televise tape-delayed the WPIAL Class 3A team wrestling finals on Feb. 8 and the WPIAL Class 2A individual finals on Feb. 22. The Class 3A team championship was held Feb. 2 at Norwin.
