Trinity bounces back from WPIAL loss, routs Selinsgrove in state tournament

HERSHEY — WPIAL Class 3A runner-up Trinity won 10 of 13 matches and had eight pins in an easy 54-14 first-round win against District 4 champion Selisngrove at the PIAA team championships Thursday at the Giant Center.

The Hillers (12-1) raced out to a 21-0 lead thanks to pins by Zane Garner (127 pounds), Blake Reihner (139) and Thomas Allison (145).

They also got pins from Mickey Horne (107), Jacob Wright (114), Dominick Canali (121), Bodie Morgan (172) and Robbie Allison (215).

Key win: Trinity’s Cael Nicolella trailed 10-4 to Selinsgrove’s Ethan Miller in the first period and rallied for a 14-13 victory at 160 pounds.

Coach’s thoughts: “I thought we came out a little nervous at the beginning and then we settled in,” Trinity coach Ron Tarquinio said. “It’s exciting to get a win here. It’s a testament to the guys for bouncing back from the WPIAL finals.”

Up next: Trinity will face District 11 champion Bethlehem Catholic (13-1) in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Friday. Bethlehem Catholic defeated Central Dauphin, 37-18.
