The spring season is an important time for the Quaker Valley girls soccer program.

The Quakers, the defending WPIAL Class 2A champions, elect team captains for the fall season in the spring. Players vote for the candidates.

QV’s captains this year are two seniors, defender Emma Currier and midfielder Ari Bosh, and a junior, attack/midfielder Annabel Miko.

“The captains were decided in the spring, and we’ve been preparing over the summer,” said Currier, who plays primarily as the center back on defense.

Bosh and Miko are attacking midfielders.

“Some of our responsibilities are making sure the team is always together and always ready,” Bosh said.

Each of the Quakers’ three team leaders were elated to relive the 2024 championship season.

“Winning the WPIAL was so amazing to be a part of,” Currier said. “Playing at Highmark with a stadium of support was an incredible feeling. We’re all so grateful to have experienced it and are definitely aiming to go back.

“Our expectations are as high as last year. We want to go all the way to Highmark again and believe it’s possible if we put in the effort. We know that now we’ve got a target on our backs, which is different than last year, but we’re coming out just as strong.”

Bosh is looking to win another WPIAL championship in 2025.

“I hope to win it again. It’s just an amazing feeling,” she said. “My expectations for this team are pretty high. Some of our goals are to earn all-section again and win WPIALs.

“I would say a team strength right now is our offense. I feel we will work very well together moving the ball up top.”

Miko expects her team to make strong showings in both the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs.

“Winning WPIALs at Highmark Stadium was the best feeling, especially because it had been so long since QVGS had the title,” Miko said. “We set that goal in preseason, and we achieved it. Our goal this year is to win back-to-back WPIAL titles, and we have some unfinished business with going back winning states this time.

“We miss our seniors Mia (Modrovich) and Anna (Hanley), but we have a strong core of players and talented freshmen joining us. I’ve been looking forward to this season since last season ended. Our team and coaches set high goals, and we will put in the work to earn them.”

Currier said the QV girls have been solid in early preseason practices.

The Quakers’ first two home games are Sept. 3-4 against Ambridge and Sewickley Academy.

“We’re looking very strong so far,” Currier said. “We worked hard over the summer, and that prepared us well to progress faster in the preseason. We lost two influential seniors from last year, but we have the players ready to fill those roles.

“We like to keep our lineup dynamic for the teams we will face. We’re all excited to get on the field and live up to the big potential we have.”
