Trio of unbeaten teams earn top seeds for WPIAL soccer playoffs

Three undefeated teams earned No. 1 seeds in the WPIAL boys soccer playoffs.

Plum (15-0-3) was rewarded with the top seed in Class 4A, while Moon (17-0) took the top spot in 3A, and Bentworth (15-0) is No. 1 in Class A.

In Class 2A, South Park (16-1-1) was given the top nod.

Plum, Peters Township, Fox Chapel and North Allegheny received byes into the quarterfinals.

South Park and Bentworth are defending champions.

Girls No. 1 seeds are Peters Township (15-1-1) in 4A, Fox Chapel (15-1-1) in 3A, Mt. Pleasant (14-1) in 2A and Springdale (13-1) in Class A.

Peters Township, Seneca Valley, Penn-Trafford at North Allegheny have opening byes. Fox Chapel was the 4A champion last year.

First-round games will be played across Saturday, Monday and Tuesday with higher seeds playing at home for the first two rounds.

The WPIAL finals are scheduled for Oct. 31 and Nov. 1-2 at Highmark Stadium.

Uniquely, there are a few preliminary games on Thursday, the day after the regular season ends.
