The Sewickley Academy boys tennis team’s 15-year WPIAL-title streak came to an end Thursday when it lost to Upper St. Clair in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.
In a battle of the Panthers, USC scored a 3-2 victory to advance to the quarterfinals and a meeting with top-seeded Fox Chapel.
The Foxes topped Latrobe, 5-0.
USC and Sewickley Academy also met during the regular season with USC winning 4-1.
Sewickley Academy, which made the move up from Class AA this year, had won 23 WPIAL titles in 26 years since the WPIAL split teams into two classifications in 1993.
This year, it went 6-1 in Section 2-AAA, and its lone loss came at the hands of North Allegheny.
