The cancellation of the spring sports season has Greater Latrobe Lacrosse senior Emily Hoffman thinking what could have been..yes we all got the news we were hoping not to get no Lacrosse season this year, yes, I know it’s out of our hands and we are doing our part, but you see this year was going to be so awesome.
Emily started lacrosse late and by late I mean 10 days before the season of tenth grade, sure she has played goalie for soccer so she knew what it took to stop a ball but lacrosse is a totally different game. How would she take what she knew about soccer to lacrosse lucky for her Latrobe Lacrosse has a coach to help out what started out with a call from a teammate has become the game she loves.
Emily’s soon realized that she had a bigger goal not just to be the starting goalie for Latrobe but to get a scholarship to play in college but because she didn’t start playing lacrosse until her sophomore year and she just started playing club lacrosse before her senior year she soon realized we might be too late as most goalies are recruited during there junior year of high school but that did not stop her ..
Emily worked hard to get better at the game even got up early on Saturday to go to True Lacrosse practice in Pittsburgh ( ya know how hard that was for her) she traveled all summer with her Pittsburgh travel team and was fortunate to be able to play for Colorado True Lacrosse (they needed a goalie that’s a great story!!) so she could get extra time in the goal she spent time in the gym and gave up time with friends to get better at the game.
All the hard work was coming together, the team had a scrimmage and that win they realized this year was going to be different, well different was an understatement for sure.
Emily will continue to play Lacrosse next year at Limestone College a division II school ranked in the top ten for women’s Lacrosse where she will study to be an athletic trainer
Thank you Kaytie for your leadership and Beetle for teaching Emily how to be a fierce goalie she will take a piece of Latrobe Lacrosse to Limestone next year.
