Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League kicks off 2023 season

Plum, North Allegheny and Mt. Lebanon earned doubleheader sweeps during the opening Sunday of varsity action in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League.

Plum outscored North Hills, 32-4, in a dominant opening performance.

North Allegheny, the WPISL runner-up to Shaler last year, won two from Hempfield, 14-3 and 7-5, while Mt. Lebanon scored 39 total runs in scoring two wins against the defending league champion Titans.

Mt. Pleasant and Seneca Valley split their season-opening pair of games.

The doubleheader between Montour and West Allegheny was postponed and has yet to be rescheduled.

Baldwin and Bethel Park open their seasons against each other with a single game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Simmons Park in Bethel Park.
