Alayna Stawovy

School: Greensburg Central Catholic

Class: Senior

Sport: Golf

Claim to fame: She captured the annual Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association girls golf title for the first time Sept. 4 at Champion Lakes Golf Course in Bolivar. She shot a 1-over-par 38. She also helped the Centurions win the Class 2A team title.

What does it mean to win the county tournament?

I’ve had a lot of teammates win in the past, and it’s been a goal of mine. So it was good.

What was the key to winning?

I just focused on the shot in front of me and nothing else. And I did not really worry about golfing when I was not hitting good shots.

How’s the season gone so far?

It has been pretty good. The team is doing good. I feel like I have done pretty good myself.

What are your goals?

Just to have fun, finish the season as strong as I can and lead the team.

So is another WPIAL title still within the team’s grasp?

I believe it is. Yeah, if we are mentally there, I think physically, we can do it.

What did you do in the offseason to make you a better player?

I worked a lot on my mindset, and I just kind of focused on my game. That was a key part, and I just kind of worked on the swing, too, and that helped a lot too, and I kind of clicked.

What’s your favorite movie?

‘White Chicks’

Do you have a favorite actor?

Glenn Powell.

What type of music do you like to listen to?

I listen to a lot of different music. Country is the main one. I like Zach Bryan. He is probably my favorite.

Do you have a favorite vacation spot?

We normally go down to Jupiter, Fla. It is nice place to go.

Do you have a dream vacation spot you’d like to go to someday?

I would like to go somewhere out of the country, maybe to Europe.

What kind of ball do you use?

TaylorMade, TP5.

What is your favorite club?

My driver, a PING G430 Max.

What’s your favorite course?

Ligonier Valley Country Club.

Who is your favorite golfer?

I like Justin Thomas.

What is your favorite meal your mom makes you?

Steak with a twice-baked potato.

Where do you and your teammates head to for a snack after a match or practice and what do you get?

We would go to Chick-fil-A probably, and I would get a chicken sandwich.

Luke Sikora

School: Greensburg Salem

Class: Junior

Sport: Golf

Claim to fame: The chances of an average golfer getting a hole-in-one is 1 in 12,500. The chances of a pro golfer is 1 in a 2,500. Sikora, 16, is off the charts. He bagged his third hole-in-one within five months. He got his first ace at Laurel Valley Golf Club on May 16 (No. 5, 187 yards, 7 iron). The second one came Aug. 15 at Greensburg Country Club (No. 15, 178, 7 iron), and his third on Sept. 3 at Grandview (No. 9, 125 yards, 53-degree gap wedge).

Talk about your first hole-in-one.

I was not playing well at Laurel Valley, so I was surprised. I used a 7-iron from 187 yards. I hit it right of the pin, and it spun left.

What about the second hole-in-one?

It was at Greensburg Country Club, and I was even more surprised. I hit a 7-iron again from 178 yards. Again, the ball hit right of the hole and spun left. The hole was in a shadow, so I did not see it go in.

How about the third hole-in-one?

It was an even bigger shocker. This one was on No. 9 at Grandview. It was only 125 yards. I hit a 53-degree gap wedge and like the first two the ball landed right of the cup and spun left. All three were good shots.

How is the season going?

It has been good. I am playing all right and so has the team. We could be better.

Are you looking forward to the Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association tournament Thursday at the Latrobe Elks?

Yes. I am looking for redemption after losing in a scorecard playoff to Kiski Area’s Max Mottura.

Do you like the layout at the Elks?

It is a good course, challenging.

What are your goals?

I want to play well and qualify for WPIALs and PIAAs. I am not worried about winning. I just want to play well.

Your dad (Ryan) is one of the top amateur golfers in Western Pa. What has he taught you?

He has helped me out a lot, especially with how I should approach tournament play.

What did you do over the last year to improve your game?

I hit a lot of balls, practiced and played in a lot of tournaments.

What is your favorite golf movie?

I like ‘Stick’ starring Owen Wilson. It is fun.

Who is your favorite golfer?

Scottie Scheffler.

PGA Tour or LIV?

LIV players play for the money, and who could blame them? But I like the PGA Tour because it is more competitive. It is a lot better, and that is why they play better in the major tournaments.

Where do you and your teammates go to eat after a match or practice?

We go to Mr. Tokyo. The food is good, and you get a lot.

What is your favorite meal your mom makes you?

I like her inside-out raviolis.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?

We go to the Outer Banks.

Do you have a dream vacation spot?

I would like to go to Scotland and play golf.

What is your favorite golf course?

I like Laurel Valley.

What is your favorite club?

The 7-iron.

What type of ball do you play?

The Titleist Pro-V1.

Have you ever beaten your dad?

Yes. The matches are close. We play even up.
