Westmoreland County high school football matchups for 2025 Week 4

Here’s a look at the don’t-miss matchups for Week 4 in Westmoreland County:
Class 6A
No. 4 Hempfield (3-1, 0-1) vs. No. 1 Central Catholic (3-1, 1-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Titan Stadium, West Mifflin
Last week: North Allegheny 56, Hempfield 13; Central Catholic 57, Mt. Lebanon 0
Last year’s meeting: Central Catholic 42, Hempfield 0
Hempfield was soaring with a 3-0 start but ran into a strong North Allegheny defense and took its first loss. It was a 7-6 game early before the Tigers pulled away. Aidan Stinebiser and JM Landa had touchdowns for Hempfield in the loss. The Spartans allowed 47 points in their first three games and 56 last week. … Central Catholic rolled past Mt. Lebanon, topping 55 points for the second week in a row. Quarterback Owen Herrick has completed 46 of 88 passes for 722 yards and six touchdowns. Maceo Watkins and Aiden Nasiadka have 11 receptions apiece. Roman Thompson is a two-way standout at running back and middle linebacker. Several Vikings players have received Division I scholarship offers of late, including Chrys Black Jr. (Florida State), Zachary Gleason (West Virginia), James Halter (Notre Dame) and Thompson (Penn State). The Vikings’ loss was to LaSalle College.
Class 5A Big East Conference
Gateway (1-3, 1-0) at Franklin Regional (0-4, 0-1)
7 p.m. Friday, Panther Stadium, Murrysville
Last week: Gateway 34, Kiski Area 31; Latrobe 13, Franklin Regional 7
Last year’s meeting: Franklin Regional 36, Gateway 34
Mayson Mitchell completed 25 of 41 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns to power Gateway against Kiski Area. The Gators put up 28 points in the first half and held off the Cavaliers. Kacey Carter, Tyree Gowder and Shawn Moorefield had TD catches for the Gators, who snapped a seven-game losing streak. … Franklin Regional slipped to 0-4 despite scoring the opening touchdown against Latrobe. Dom Devola, the Panthers’ first-year starting quarterback, scored on a short rush. The Panthers are allowing 33.7 points per game and have scored 40 in total.
Kiski Area (1-3, 0-1) at Penn-Trafford (3-1, 0-1)
7:30 p.m. Friday, Warrior Stadium, Harrison City
Last week: Gateway 34, Kiski Area 31; Woodland Hills 49, Penn-Trafford 21
Last year’s meeting: Penn-Trafford 33, Kiski Area 7
Both teams are looking for bounce-back wins after losses in their conference openers. … Cavaliers quarterback Landyn Artman completed 10 of 24 passes for 170 yards and four touchdowns last week. He also rushed for 74 yards. … The Warriors allowed two kickoff returns and an interception return for scores. Sophomore running back Cody Yacamelli rushed for 145 yards and had an 80-yard touchdown run. Running back Ben Grabowski returned to action and ran for 68 yards and a score.
Latrobe (2-2, 1-0) at Armstrong (1-3, 0-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Armstrong Stadium, Kittanning
Last week: Latrobe 13, Franklin Regional 7; Canon-McMillan 31, Armstrong 21
Last year’s meeting: Latrobe 14, Armstrong 0
Latrobe won its conference opener with a solid defensive effort against Franklin Regional. It was the first conference win and first home win for new coach Tom McIntyre. Chris Cochran, seeing more carries with AJ Yeboah out with an injury, ran for a season-high 133 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries for the Wildcats. … Armstrong dropped its second straight game but will look to right the ship in its conference opener. Quarterback Deo Beck likes to sling the ball around. Last week, he attempted 50 passes against Canon-McMillan. He was 31 of 50 for 304 yards and three touchdowns. Quinn Olsen caught nine passes for 116 yards and two TDs.
Class 2A Allegheny Conference
OLSH (1-3, 0-1) at Ligonier Valley (0-4, 0-1)
7 p.m. Friday, Weller Field, Ligonier
Last week: South Allegheny 28, OLSH 6; Shady Side Academy 42, Ligonier Valley 6
Last year’s meeting: OLSH 28, Ligonier Valley 7
The teams stumbled out of the gates of conference play last week. … OLSH’s offense struggled against the South Allegheny defense (minus-7 yards). Christopher Harris returned an interception for a touchdown for the Chargers. … The Rams have lost four games to open the season. Bryce Vida scored for the young Rams in last week’s loss.
Class A Black Hills Conference
Monessen (4-0, 1-0) at No. 1 Fort Cherry (4-0, 1-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Jim Garry Stadium, McDonald
Last week: Monessen 13, Serra Catholic 6; Fort Cherry 44, Chartiers-Houston 14
Last year’s meeting: Fort Cherry 35, Monessen 14
This will be a first-place showdown between unbeaten teams in the Black Hills Conference. … Monessen is coming off a 13-6 victory against Serra Catholic, a game filled with penalties and turnovers. Michael Hines and Kayden Kolbeck scored touchdowns for the Greyhounds. … Penn State commit Matt Seig scored three touchdowns, including an 84-yard interception return, in Fort Cherry’s win against OLSH. He ran for 111 yards and a touchdown against Chartiers-Houston earlier this month. The Rangers have scored 40 or more points in every game this season.
Class A Eastern Conference
Greensburg Central Catholic (2-2, 0-1) at Brentwood (2-2, 1-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Brentwood Stadium, Brentwood
Last week: Clairton 43, Greensburg Central Catholic 0; Brentwood 42, Springdale 0
Last year’s meeting: Greensburg Central Catholic 42, Brentwood 12
No. 2 Clairton had its way in the passing game in shutting out GCC last week. The Centurions allowed 288 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air. GCC was limited to 29 yards of offense. Last year’s win over Brentwood keyed a seven-game winning streak. Big-play senior Samir Crosby played receiver, quarterback and running back last week. … Brentwood was powered by Cedric Davis in last week’s win against visiting Springdale. Davis was 8 of 10 for 162 yards and ran for two touchdowns in the conference-opening victory. The Spartans have back-to-back shutouts having blanked Sto-Rox, 42-0, in Week 2. Dayshaun Spencer had a 54-yard interception return for a touchdown last week. Brentwood lost to Yough in Week Zero, 21-14.
No. 5 Jeannette (3-1, 1-0) at Leechburg (3-1, 1-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Veterans Memorial Stadium, Leechburg
Last week: Jeannette 61, Frazier 19; Leechburg 27, Riverview 18
Last year’s meeting: Leechburg 35, Jeannette 13
The matchup of the week in the Eastern A features teams with matching three-game winning streaks. Jeannette handled Frazier as the Jayhawks rode a 33-point first quarter to a rout. Kymon’e Brown ran for 142 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries and threw for two scores, both to Jayce Powell. Eli Jones had a 61-yard fumble recovery for a score. … Leechburg continued to rely on the power running game led by Tim Andrasy, who rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries against Riverview. Jaxon Vargo also scored for the Blue Devils. Andrasy leads the WPIAL in rushing with 780 yards and 13 total touchdowns. Leechburg lost to Apollo-Ridge, 20-16. Jeannette defeated Apollo-Ridge, 35-22.
Nonconference
Belle Vernon (1-2) at South Fayette (3-1)
7 p.m. Friday, South Fayette Stadium, McDonald
Last week: McKeesport 20, Belle Vernon 7; South Fayette 27, Elizabeth Forward 24
Last year’s meeting: South Fayette 27, Belle Vernon 14
Belle Vernon and South Fayette have one more nonconference game before they start conference play. … Belle Vernon dropped a tough one to McKeesport last week. QB Curtis Wade scored on an 18-yard run. He rushed for 43 yards and completed 5 of 8 passes for 89 yards. … South Fayette RB Aayden Wright rushed for 145 yards and ran 92 yards for a score last week. He also caught a TD pass from Drew Welhorsky, who threw two touchdowns and ran for one.
Blackhawk (1-3) at Yough (2-2)
7 p.m. Friday, Cougar Mountain, Herminie
Last week: Southmoreland 24, Blackhawk 17; New Castle 53, Yough 0
Last year’s meeting: Blackhawk 57, Yough 6
Both teams are coming off losses in Week 3. … Blackhawk watched Southmoreland rally for a win. RB Brayden McCarthy rushed for two touchdowns and 71 yards. … The Cougars have been outscored 92-0 the past two road games. The Cougars lost senior Corbin Reinstadtler to a lower-body injury on a blindside hit against New Castle. Sophomore John Gergely is the Cougars’ leading rusher.
Derry (3-1) at Indiana (1-3)
7 p.m. Friday Friday, Andy Kuzneski Field, Indiana
Last week: Derry 13, Burrell 7; Indiana 48, Laurel Highlands 7
Last year’s result: Derry 21, Indiana 0
Both teams are coming off victories as they prepare for the start conference play Sept. 26. … Running back Max Doherty rushed for 102 yards and scored two touchdowns for Derry last week. Quarterback Anthony Sacco was 8 of 14 for 81 yards. … Indiana quarterback Jason Strack threw two touchdown passes and ran for another against Laurel Highlands. Kevin Liu and Elijah Thomas each scored twice.
Greensburg Salem (2-2) at Ambridge (0-4)
7 p.m. Friday, Moe Rubenstein Stadium, Ambridge
Last week: Ringgold 33, Greensburg Salem 13; Mt. Pleasant 28, Ambridge 27
Last year’s meeting: Ambridge 27, Greensburg Salem 8
Greensburg Salem had a two-game winning streak snapped as it fell behind Ringgold, 27-0, at the half and could not recover. Tyrese Lewis and Braydon Miller had touchdowns in the loss. This is the Golden Lions’ fifth nonconference game before they finally begin Interstate play next week against Elizabeth Forward. … Ambridge is one of two winless team in Class 4A, joining Knoch. The Bridgers were 4-5 last year, with one of those wins coming at Greensburg Salem. Last week, the Bridgers held a 27-21 lead in the fourth quarter, but Mt. Pleasant scored late to win by one point. Daevon Cain ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries in the loss.
Mt. Pleasant (2-2) at Laurel Highlands (2-2)
7 p.m. Friday, Mustang Stadium, Uniontown
Last week: Mt. Pleasant 28, Ambridge 27; Indiana 48, Laurel Highlands 7
Last year’s meeting: Laurel Highlands 21, Mt. Pleasant 20 (OT)
These former conference foes played an overtime game in 2024. … The Vikings got a 118-yard and two-touchdown performance from Kaden Hudec against Ambridge and 98 yards and a touchdown from Richard Shawley. QB Dane Firmstone scored the winning touchdown in the final seconds. … Laurel Highlands also owns a nonconference win against Ambridge. The Mustangs allowed seven touchdowns of more than 16 yards to Indiana. They have been outscored 102-14 in the past two games.
Ringgold (3-1) at Southmoreland (4-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Russ Grimm Stadium, Alverton
Last week: Southmoreland 24, Blackhawk 17; Ringgold 33, Greensburg Salem 13
Last year’s meeting: Southmoreland 32, Ringgold 15
A quietly good matchup between Class 4A and 3A teams trending upward. … Ringgold jumped on Greensburg Salem early and cruised to its third straight win as Dennis Hawkins completed 14 of 20 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a score. Demetri Lowe had two scoring catches. The Rams are averaging 44.7 points in their wins. Their loss came against South Allegheny (33-21) in Week Zero. The Rams were 2-8 last season. The Rams have come a long way in a year. Last season, they ended a 27-game losing streak. They have not won more than three games in a season since 2016. … Despite putting up a season low for points, Southmoreland ran its winning streak to four as Jackson Mickens had two touchdowns, on a rush and a blocked punt. Dawson Wolfe threw for 114 yards and ran for a score, and Liam Smith kicked a 23-yard field goal. The Scotties are averaging 41.7 points. Their last 5-0 start was in 2019.
