Here’s a look at the don’t-miss matchups for Week 5 in Westmoreland County:

Class 6A

No. 4 Canon-McMillan (3-2, 1-0) at No. 5 Hempfield (3-2, 0-2)

7 p.m. Friday, Spartan Stadium, Hempfield

Last week: Canon-McMillan 21, Mt. Lebanon 6; Central Catholic 59, Hempfield 7

Last year’s meeting: Hempfield 33, Canon-McMillan 27 (OT)

A game that likely will help mold the 6A playoff picture. If last year’s game is any indication, buckle up for some fireworks. Late in the game, Canon-McMillan intercepted a pass and returned it to the 1 but fumbled in the end zone, and Jack Kopas recovered for Hempfield to force overtime. Aidan Stinebiser scored the winning TD in overtime. … Last week, Hempfield was no match for No. 1 Central Catholic as the Spartans managed minus-9 yards rushing and had three turnovers. Kopas had six catches for 87 yards and a score. … Ty Jansma threw for 176 yards and a TD, and TJ Sabatucci had four catches for 103 yards as Canon-McMillan used a big second half to beat winless Mt. Lebanon.

Class 5A Big East

Franklin Regional (0-5, 0-2) at Kiski Area (0-5, 0-2)

7 p.m. Friday, Richard Dilts Stadium, Allegheny Township

Last week: Gateway 33, Franklin Regional 28; Penn-Trafford 42, Kiski Area 0

Last year’s meeting: Franklin Regional 35, Kiski Area 30

Both teams are coming off tough losses, and both blew games in the fourth quarter against Gateway. … The last time the Panthers started 0-5 was 2000. Four players scored against Gateway. QB Dom Devola rushed for 96 yards and a score and completed 13 of 19 passes for 178 yards and two scores. … Ashton Taylor rushed for 68 yards last week for the Cavaliers, who have lost four straight games. The Cavaliers had trouble moving the ball. Kiski Area returns home after a rare four-game road trip. … Franklin Regional leads 14-11 in the all-time series.

Latrobe (2-3, 1-1) at No. 4 Woodland Hills (3-2, 1-0)

7 p.m. Friday, The Wolvarena, Turtle Creek

Last week: Armstrong 17, Latrobe 14; Woodland Hills 41, Shaler 7

Last year’s meeting: Woodland Hills 30, Latrobe 20

Latrobe rallied after falling behind 14-0 but fell short at Armstrong. Cash Achhammer and Dom Scarton scored in the defeat. It was the fourth time Latrobe has scored 15 or fewer points this season. … Woodland Hills will play its third straight home game. The Wolverines started fast last week and thumped Shaler as Scoop Smith caught eight passes for 102 yards and returned a punt 54 yards for a score. Taylor Reid led the ground attack with 229 yards and four TDs on 19 carries.

Class 4A Big Six

No. 2 Thomas Jefferson (4-1, 0-0) at Belle Vernon (1-3, 0-0)

7 p.m. Friday at James Weir Stadium, Rostraver

Last week: Thomas Jefferson 35, West Mifflin 14; South Fayette 28, Belle Vernon 7

Last year’s meeting: Thomas Jefferson 42, Belle Vernon 14

This Mon Valley rivalry goes back to the mid-1960s when late Bellmar coach Bap Manzini left the Belle Vernon school district to coach at TJ. … The Jaguars are led by Ty Eber, who scored four touchdowns against West Mifflin. The Jaguars’ other touchdown was a defensive score. … Curtis Wade scored a touchdown for the Leopards, and Chase Petrosky rushed for 108 yards last week. Wade only completed 2 of 9 passes.

Class 3A Interstate

No. 4 Elizabeth Forward (4-1) at Greensburg Salem (2-3)

7 p.m. Friday, Offutt Field, Greensburg

Last week: Elizabeth Forward 57, Baldwin 0; Ambridge 42, Greensburg Salem 32

Last year’s meeting: Elizabeth Forward 49, Greensburg Salem 17

This is the conference opener for both teams. … Elizabeth Forward rolled to its first shutout of the season as Rocco Thompson scored two touchdowns, and Ryan Messina threw for two scores. Matthew Gatto added a blocked punt for a score. The Warriors are averaging 40.8 points. … Greensburg Salem found itself in a shootout with Ambridge but could not rally and dropped its second straight game. Brody Chismar passed for 259 yards and three touchdowns, including plays of 54 and 51 yards to Braydon Miller and Max Topper.

Yough (2-3) at Mt. Pleasant (3-2)

7 p.m. Friday, Mt. Pleasant Area Stadium, Mt. Pleasant

Last week: Blackhawk 49, Yough 6; Mt. Pleasant 49, Laurel Highlands 0

Last year’s meeting: Mt. Pleasant 22, Yough 19

This is another conference opener between Westmoreland programs. … Yough is on a three-game slide after starting 2-0. The Cougars have been outscored 142-6 in the last three weeks. Aidan Shaffer had the only touchdown in last week’s setback. … Mt. Pleasant will play its fourth home game in six weeks. The Vikings are beginning to get healthy again after some early season injuries. Stephen Predajna returned to the backfield and ran for three touchdowns against Laurel Highlands. Brady Brooks returned a punt 65 yards for a score.

Class 2A Allegheny

Ligonier Valley (0-5, 0-2) at No. 1 South Allegheny (5-0, 2-0)

7 p.m. Friday, Gladiator Stadium, Liberty

Last week: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 40, Ligonier Valley 6; South Allegheny 56, South Park 7

Last year’s meeting: South Allegheny 49, Ligonier Valley 28

The Rams are playing arguably the toughest schedule in Class 2A. They are playing seven ranked teams. … Freshman Levi Foust tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Greyson Daughtery last week. Foust completed 11 of 24 passes for 156 yards. He also rushed for 74 yards. Daugherty caught five passes for 103 yards. … For South Allegheny, Joe Gamret scored four touchdowns and rushed for 144 yards. Drew Cook scored touchdown three ways: rushing, receiving and a punt return.

Class A Eastern

No. 2 Clairton (3-1, 2-0) at Jeannette (3-2, 1-1)

7 p.m. Friday, McKee Stadium, Jeannette

Last week: Clairton 72, Frazier 0; Leechburg 36, Jeannette 27

Last year’s meeting: Clairton 43, Jeannette 0

Perennial power Clairton posted its third straight shutout as it put up 58 first-half points against Frazier. Jeff Thompson, who leads a pinpoint pass attack, continued to dissect defenses. He threw three touchdown passes before intermission. Thompson was the Mr. PA Football Small School Player of the Week after he threw for 360 yards and three TDs against Greensburg Central Catholic. The Bears have outscored teams 206-19. Brandon Murphy is a Division I prospect. … Jeannette couldn’t stop the run in a road loss to Leechburg. The host Blue Devils trailed 27-21 going to the fourth quarter. Tim Andrasy ran for 259 yards and four TDs for Leechburg. Kymon’e Brown went over 100 yards passing and rushing for the third time this season in the loss. He ran for three TDs.

Greensburg C.C. (3-2, 1-1) at Riverview (3-2, 1-1)

Noon Saturday, Riverview Park, Oakmont

Last week: Greensburg Central Catholic 34, Brentwood 6; Riverview 64, Springdale 14

Last year’s meeting: Greensburg Central Catholic 45, Riverview 14

Both teams rebounded from opening conference losses with impressive road wins. … GCC used three touchdowns to defeat Brentwood. QB Bobby Smithnosky scored one touchdown and threw a 60-yard touchdown to Jerry Davis. … Riverview had seven players score touchdowns against Springdale. Kaden Levy rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and Max Kraft scored twice. … GCC leads Riverview, 12-7, in the all-time series. The Centurions have won 10 of the last 11 games with the Raiders last win coming in 2016, 13-7.

Nonconference

Class 6A No. 3 Norwin (3-2) at North Hills (1-4)

7 p.m. Friday, Martorelli Stadium, Ross Township

Last week: North Allegheny 20, Norwin 17; North Hills 56, Fox Chapel 7

Last year’s meeting: North Hills 24, Norwin 7

Norwin put a scare into No. 2 North Allegheny last week, taking a 17-7 lead in the fourth quarter before the Tigers charged back. Giovanni Rothrauff ran for 102 yards, his fifth 100-yard game of the season. Tristyn Tavares threw touchdown passes to Jake Knight and Zack Pawling. … North Hills snapped a five-game losing streak dating to last season as the Indians erupted for 56 points. Kelly McCarthy completed 11 of 18 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns, and backup Joe Geller threw for 100 yards and a score. McCarthy also ran for two scores.

Penn-Trafford (4-1) at Plum (2-3)

7 p.m. Friday, Mustangs Stadium, Plum

Last week: Penn-Trafford 42, Kiski Area 0; Pine-Richland 56, Plum 14

Last year’s meeting: Penn-Trafford 34, Plum 10

These teams are former Keystone Conference rivals. … Penn-Trafford wide receiver Nick Ponko caught five passes for 135 yards and a touchdown last week. Ben Grabowski and Cody Yacamelli scored two touchdowns as P-T coach John Ruane spread the offense between 16 players against Kiski Area. … Nico Signor and Elijah Jackson scored touchdowns for Plum against Pine-Richland. John Nonnenberg is a dual threat as the Mustangs quarterback. … Penn-Trafford holds a 17-6 lead against Plum in the all-time series that dates to 1972, the first year of P-T when both were Keystone Conference members. Plum has lost the last 11 games against Penn-Trafford, with its last victory coming in 2001, 14-3.

Class A No. 5 South Side (4-1) at Monessen (4-1)

7 p.m. Friday, Memorial Stadium, Monessen

Last week: Fort Cherry 55, Monessen 6; South Side 35, Shenango 7

Last year’s meeting: Monessen 32, South Side 17

The Greyhounds dropped their first game of the season on a historic night for Fort Cherry senior Matt Seig, who became the WPIAL all-time touchdown leader. … Will Morgan rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and Amare Moman rushed for 131 yards against Shenango. … Monessen’s only touchdown was scored by Rodney Johnson on a 4-yard run. Johnson also caught three passes for 51 yards. The Greyhounds started 4-0 for the second consecutive season.
