Here’s a look at the don’t-miss matchups for Week 6 in Westmoreland County:

Class 5A Big East

Gateway (2-4, 2-1) at No. 5 Penn-Trafford (5-1, 1-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday, Warrior Stadium, Harrison City

Last week: Armstrong 29, Gateway 28; Penn-Trafford 33, Plum 14

Last year’s meeting: Penn-Trafford 32, Gateway 13

The Battle for the Bell is one of the prizes for the winner of this game. Penn-Trafford won the game in 2024. … Gateway dropped a one-point game last week. QB Mitchell Mayson completed 18 of 25 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a score. WR Shaun Moorefield Jr. caught 10 passes for 154 yards. … Sophomore RB/QB Cody Yacamelli scored four touchdowns and rushed for 115 yards on nine carries. He also completed 3 of 3 passes for 25 yards.

Latrobe (2-4, 1-2) at Kiski Area (2-4, 1-2)

7 p.m. Friday, Richard J. Dilts Stadium, Allegheny Township

Last week: Woodland Hills 33, Latrobe 9; Kiski Area 14, Franklin Regional 7

Last year’s meeting: Kiski Area 36, Latrobe 13

Latrobe dropped its second straight conference game as the offense was only able to muster three field goals by Mitch Horner (38, 34 and 33 yards). Dom Scarton completed 14 of 20 passes for 137 yards in the setback. … Kiski Area gave first-year coach Colyn Haugh, a Franklin Regional alum, his first conference win as Aven Shirley ran for 152 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. He also threw a TD pass to Teegan Shirley. The victory broke a four-game losing streak.

Class 4A Big Six

Belle Vernon (1-4, 0-1) at Chartiers Valley (5-1, 1-0)

7 p.m. Friday, Chartiers Valley Stadium, Bridgeville

Last week: Thomas Jefferson 14, Belle Vernon 10; Chartiers Valley 62, Laurel Highlands 7

Last year’s meeting: Belle Vernon 68, Chartiers Valley 21

Belle Vernon took a 10-7 lead over rival Thomas Jefferson last week, but the Jaguars went ahead to stay with a fourth-quarter touchdown. Anthony Dicenzo caught a 73-yard pass from Curtis Wade, who threw for a career-high 214 yards on 13-of-17 passing. Chase Petrosky had his second straight 100-yard rushing game with 123 yards on 20 carries. … High-scoring Chartiers Valley (38.6 ppg) cruised to its fifth straight win, scoring 62 for the second time in three weeks. Tayshaun Lewis had a 63-yard touchdown run and finished with 144 yards on four carries. The Colts were 3-6 last season. The teams combined for 89 points last year at Belle Vernon.

Class 3A Interstate

Derry (3-3, 0-1) at No. 3 Elizabeth Forward (5-1, 1-0)

7 p.m. Friday, Warrior Stadium, Elizabeth

Last week: Elizabeth Forward 49, Greensburg Salem 7; Southmoreland 23, Derry 11

Last year’s meeting: Elizabeth Forward 56, Derry 14

The first-place Warriors are coming off a convincing victory at Greensburg Salem. QB Ryan Messina completed 13 of 22 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. RB Rocco Thompson rushed for 107 yards, and Logan Rider caught nine passes for 177 yards. … RB Max Doherty rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown against Southmoreland. DT Dylan Pitzer had a huge game that included three sacks and a safety.

Greensburg Salem (2-4, 0-1) at Mt. Pleasant (4-2, 1-0)

7 p.m. Friday, Viking Stadium, Mt. Pleasant

Last week: Elizabeth Forward 49, Greensburg Salem 7; Mt. Pleasant 41, Yough 7

Last year’s meeting: Mt. Pleasant 28, Greensburg Salem 21

Greensburg Salem dropped its third straight game, falling behind 28-7 at halftime in its conference opener. Tyrese Lewis caught a 22-yard pass from Chris Berger for its only points. Berger is the backup to Brody Chismar, who has an injured knee. Berger threw for 133 yards in his first start. … Mt. Pleasant picked up its third straight win, scoring 40-plus points for the second week in a row. Dane Firmstone accounted for three touchdowns, one on a blocked punt recovery, while Steven Predajna, Richard Shawley, Rage Suchar and Kaden Hudec also scored for the Vikings.

No. 4 Southmoreland (6-0, 1-0) at Yough (2-4, 0-1)

7 p.m. Friday, Cougar Mountain, Herminie

Last week: Southmoreland 23, Derry 11; Mt. Pleasant 41, Yough 7

Last year’s meeting: Southmoreland 53, Yough 34

This will be a homecoming for Southmoreland coach Dustin Shoaf, Yough’s all-time leading rusher. … Scotties QB Dustin Wolfe tossed two touchdown passes and completed 12 of 19 passes for 178 yards last week. Liam Smith booted a 38-yard field goal. … Yough WR Ryan Sarver caught a touchdown pass from Aidan Shaffer in last week’s loss to Mt. Pleasant. He had eight catches for 49 yards, and Shaffer completed 10 of 19 passes for 80 yards.

Class A Black Hills

Chartiers-Houston (3-3, 1-2) at Monessen (4-2, 1-1)

7 p.m. Friday, Memorial Stadium, Monessen

Last week: Bishop Canevin 32, Chartiers-Houston 0; South Side 21, Monessen 7

Last year’s meeting: Monessen 14, Chartiers-Houston 7

This is a big game for both teams, as the winner will have the inside track to make the WPIAL playoffs. … Chartiers-Houston QB Aaron Walsh completed 6 of 16 passes for 89 yards last week. He has rushed for 412 yards this season. … Monessen RB Tavian Taylor caught a 44-yard touchdown pass against South Side. He has rushed for 433 yards and eight touchdowns. QB Kaier Payne has thrown for 604 yards and six touchdowns.

Class A Eastern

Greensburg Central Catholic (3-3, 1-2) at Jeannette (3-3, 1-2)

7 p.m. Friday, McKee Stadium, Jeannette

Last week: Riverview 26, GCC 7; Clairton 57, Jeannette 0

Last year’s meeting: GCC 44, Jeannette 27; Jeannette 29, GCC 23 (WPIAL quarterfinals)

A much-anticipated rematch from last year’s WPIAL playoffs. … Greensburg Central Catholic played without standout Samir Crosby in last Saturday’s upset loss at Riverview. Blase Bugosh returned a kickoff 79 yards for GCC’s only touchdown. GCC, Jeannette and Frazier are all tied for fourth place. The top three teams and a possible wild-card pick qualify for the playoffs. … Jeannette struggled to move the ball against Clairton. The Jayhawks were forced to pass and had four turnovers, which the Bears turned into points. Receiver Jayce Powell injured his ankle in the loss. Quarterback Kymon’e Brown led Jeannette to a quarterfinal upset last year as the Jayhawks made an unexpected run to the semis. Brown ran for 139 yards, threw for 133 and a score and intercepted a pass in the playoff matchup.

Nonconference

Charleroi (1-5) at Ligonier Valley (0-6)

7 p.m. Friday, Weller Field, Ligonier

Last week: Charleroi 45, Sto-Rox 26; South Allegheny 62, Ligonier Valley 14

Last year’s meeting: Ligonier Valley 20, Charleroi 14

Both teams are having tough seasons while playing a lot of underclassmen. … Charleroi got two touchdowns each from Brody DeUnger and Alijah Allan in a rout of Sto-Rox last week. … Ligonier Valley’s Jake Petalino and Levi Foust each scored touchdowns against South Allegheny. Petalino rushed for 60 yards and Foust 37.

Fox Chapel (2-4) at Franklin Regional (0-6)

7 p.m. Friday, Panther Stadium, Murrysville

Last week: Pine-Richland 63, Fox Chapel 3; Kiski Area 14, Franklin Regional 7

Last year’s meeting: Franklin Regional 51, Fox Chapel 14

A matchup of teams looking for answers five weeks into the season. … Fox Chapel originally requested to play shortened quarters last week against Pine-Richland but still lost by 60 points. The Foxes are allowing 38.3 points per game. Standout kicker Harran Zureikat, a Georgia commit, made a 54-yard field goal. … Franklin Regional slid to its first 0-6 start in 25 years. The Panthers, hit hard by injuries, have lost seven in a row overall. They are allowing 30.3 points. Eli Chadwick caught a touchdown pass from Dom Devola last week.
