9-Latrobe (13-3) at 8-South Fayette (10-2-3)

1 p.m. Saturday

Winner plays: 16-Chartiers Valley (7-9)/1-Plum (17-1) Wednesday in quarterfinals

Players to watch: Roman Agostoni, Latrobe; Nate Belcufine, South Fayette

Throw-ins: Latrobe is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The Wildcats never have won this many games in a season. They own two wins over perennial playoff team Franklin Regional. … South Fayette took third in Section 2 behind Moon and Montour. The Lions played a strong nonsection schedule with a win over 4A Canon-McMillan and a double-overtime loss to Upper St. Clair.

11-Franklin Regional (10-7) at 6-Mars (11-3-1)

1 p.m. Saturday

Winner plays: Winner of No. 14 Ringgold (11-4-1)/No. 3 Moon (14-3-1) Wednesday in quarterfinals

Players to watch: Danny Christafano, Franklin Regional; Zack Angoff, Mars

Throw-ins: Franklin Regional took third in Section 4 behind Plum and Latrobe. The Panthers won WPIAL titles in 2018 and ‘19 and made the final in ‘20. … Mars, which became the 2020 champion with an overtime win over Franklin Regional, has won five straight, including four via shutout. It finished second in Section 1 behind Hampton.

14-Greensburg Central Catholic (7-10) at 3-Burrell (12-3)

1 p.m. Saturday

Winner plays: Winner of 11-Trinity Christian (9-5)/6-Serra Catholic (12-4) Wednesday in quarterfinals

Players to watch: Grant Brewer, GCC; Jayson Ireland, Burrell

Throw-ins: Greensburg Central Catholic finished under .500 during the regular season, which is rare. The Centurions played top-seeded Charleroi close before losing 1-0. Grant Brewer and Jackson Vacanti have 15 goals each. … Burrell, which had an 11-game winning streak earlier in the season, has lost two in a row. The Bucs tied Springdale for the Section 3 title.
