Westmoreland County players to watch for Week 1

Shawn Broadway

Derry, sr., RB/DB

The shifty senior scored on runs of 27, 18 and 3 yards and rushed for 137 yards on 20 carries to help the Trojans race past neighborhood rival Latrobe, 29-14. Broadway (5-10, 140) broke three tackles on his first score.

Robert Kennedy

Jeannette, sr., QB/DB

Kennedy broke up the potential game-tying two-point conversion pass to help the Jayhawks edge East Allegheny, 28-26. Kennedy (5-10, 175) also threw three touchdown passes, completing 10 of 16 passes for 121 yards, and ran for 131 yards and a score.

Lucas Pieszak

Mt. Pleasant, jr., QB

The junior threw two long touchdown passes, 62 yards to Cody Reese and 75 yards to Ryan Quin, in a season-opening loss, 21-14, at Laurel Highlands. Pieszak (6-0, 175) completed 9 of 21 passes for 191 yards.

Max Pisula

Greensburg C.C., jr., QB

Pisula (6-2, 220) scored twice on 1-yard runs and tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Lucas Mazowlecki to help the Centurions earn a 26-13 win at Tuscarawas Central Catholic, giving first-year coach Aaron Smetanka his first victory.
