Westmoreland County teams set to tip off at area tournaments

High school basketball season opens Friday. Here is a look at the notable tournaments and games involving Westmoreland County teams.
The Hempfield boys showcase tournament, in its 13th year, has Franklin Regional vs. Belle Vernon at 5:30 p.m.; Greensburg Central Catholic vs. Penn-Trafford at 7; and Seneca Valley vs. Hempfield at 8:30.
Jeannette pulled out of the event after playing in Thursday's PIAA Class A football championship.
Other boys games:
Derry will host a round-robin tournament with Ligonier Valley facing Greensburg Salem in the opener at 5:30 and Frazier vs. Derry at 7.
Norwin plays Ringgold at 6, and Mt. Pleasant faces Southmoreland at 7:30 in the Mt. Pleasant tournament. Latrobe plays Trinity at 6:30 in the Canon-McMillan tournament.
On the girls side, the Greensburg Salem round-robin tournament has Ligonier Valley vs. Franklin Regional at 6 and Greensburg Salem vs. McGuffey at 7:30.
Jeannette will host three teams, with Riverview playing Derry at 6:30 and Jeannette facing South Allegheny at 8.
The Southmoreland tournament has Yough vs. Frazier at 6 and Southmoreland vs. Albert Gallatin at 7:30.
Penn-Trafford plays West Mifflin at 4 p.m. and Belle Vernon takes on Cumberland Valley at 8 in the six-team McKeesport tournament.
Norwin vs. Mt. Lebanon is at 5:30 in the North Allegheny tournament, and Hempfield plays the host team in the Bethel Park tournament at 7:30.
