Class A

Third-place game

Greensburg Central Catholic (18-3) vs. Eden Christian (15-5)

Noon Wednesday at Ross Memorial Park, Washington & Jefferson

What’s at stake: Both teams have qualified for the PIAA playoffs. For state seeding purposes, the winner is the third-place team from the WPIAL, while the loser is fourth.

Players to watch: Bobby Smithnosky, Mt. Pleasant; Brady Hull, Eden Christian

Extra bases: Greensburg Central Catholic returns to the PIAA playoffs for the first time since 2018. The Centurions reached the quarterfinals that season. This year, GCC had a 12-game winning streak end in the WPIAL semis when it lost to Serra Catholic, 3-2. The Eagles used a double steal in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. GCC pitcher Tyler Samide pitched back-to-back abbreviated no-hitters in the first two rounds of the playoffs and did not allow a hit for nine straight innings. Penn State commit Anthony Grippo is one of the better hitters in Class A with a .600-plus batting average. … Eden Christian reached the WPIAL semis but fell to Carmichaels, 4-3. The Warriors have scored 10 or more runs in 11 games. They finished in a three-way tie for first in Section 3 with Serra Catholic and Bishop Canevin. Hull leads the team with a .577 average, 30 hits, 12 doubles and 35 RBIs. Brett Feldman hits .483 with a team-high 37 runs.
