THURSDAY
Boys basketball: Several local teams will be in action at holiday tournaments, a staple on local schedules for decades.
Greensburg Salem, Penn-Trafford and Jeannette will host two-day tournaments. At Greensburg Salem, Hempfield plays Laurel Highlands at 5 p.m., followed by Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Connellsville at 6:30 and Frazier vs. Greensburg Salem at 8.
Jeannette will have Serra vs. Indiana at 6 p.m., with West Mifflin and the host Jayhawks to follow at 7:30.
The Penn-Trafford schedule, which also has girls games, features Plum and Penn-Trafford at 1 p.m., and Norwin vs. McKeesport at 4.
Franklin Regional will take on Canon-McMillan at 6 p.m. at the Trinity tournament.
Girls basketball: The Penn-Trafford tournament features Norwin and McKeesport at 2:30 p.m., and Ringgold against the host Warriors at 5:30.
Southmoreland will meet Seneca Valley at the Riverside tournament, and Belle Vernon hosts Frazier at the Cal (Pa.) Classic.
Wrestling: The 29-team Southmoreland Holiday Classic includes Mt. Pleasant, Greensburg Salem and Ligonier Valley. Wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m.
FRIDAY
Boys basketball : Day 2 of the Greensburg Salem tournament once again has a three-game showcase: Frazier vs. Laurel Highlands at 5 p.m.; Westinghouse vs. Hempfield at 6:30; and Connellsville vs. Greensburg Salem at 8.
At the Jeannette tournament, Serra and West Mifflin play at 6 p.m., with Indiana and Jeannette at 7:30.
Plum and Norwin are the first boys game of the day at Penn-Trafford at 2:30 p.m., and the host Warriors take on McKeesport at 5:30.
Girls basketball: Host Penn-Trafford faces McKeesport at 1 p.m. at the P-T tournament, and surging Norwin plays Ringgold at 4.
At the Cal (Pa.) Classic, Belle Vernon places Charleroi at noon.
Wrestling: The prestigious Powerade Tournament will begin at Canon-McMillan. There are 52 teams in the field. Four individual champions and 43 placewinners return this season.
Preliminary matches start at 8:15 a.m. with consolations starting at 1 p.m. Session II begins at 6 p.m. with second-round consolation, with quarterfinals and third-round consolations at 7:30.
The Southmoreland tournament picks up at 9 a.m. Parade of Champions and finals will be at 4 p.m.
SATURDAY
Wrestling: The Powerade Tournament concludes at Canon-McMillan. Fourth-round consolations start at 9:30 a.m,; semifinals and fifth-round consolations are at 11; sixth-round consolations at 1 p.m.; consolation finals at 4; and finals at 7.
