PIAA boys soccer playoffs

Class 4A semifinals

Norwin (17-5-1) vs. Central Bucks South (18-5-2)

6 p.m. Tuesday, Chambersburg High School, Chambersburg

Winner plays: Winner of Council Rock North (19-3-1)/Conestoga (22-0-1) in championship, 7 p.m. Friday at Eagle View Middle School, Mechanicsburg

Coaches: Scott Schuchert, Norwin; Kyle Pettican, Central Bucks South

Road to the semis: Norwin — Defeated Warwick, 1-0, and Abington 2-1 (4-3 PKs); Central Bucks South — Defeated Cumberland Valley, 2-1 (3-1 PKs), and North Allegheny, 2-0.

Throw-ins: Norwin is in the state semifinals for the first time in program history as its run of thrilling finishes continues. The WPIAL champion Knights have taken three of five playoff opponents to penalty kicks. Junior George Bunovich has two winners in the shootouts, including the quarterfinal victory Saturday over Abington at Chambersburg. … Junior Daniel Maddock has three playoff goals, including one Saturday against Abington, the District 1 runner-up. … Schuchert’s next win will be the 150th of his career. … Central Bucks South, the sixth-place team from District 1 (Philadelphia area), also is looking for its first state title in boys soccer. … The Titans have not been in the state tournament since 2011 when they lost in the first round. … In the quarterfinal win Saturday over WPIAL runner-up North Allegheny, Oleksandr Sokol scored in the sixth minute before Christian Canaly found the net in minute 54. In between there were numerous fouls and stoppages because of physical play. North Allegheny did not get a shot on goal. … This matchup matches playoff underdogs. Norwin was the No. 8 and last seed in the WPIAL tournament, and Central Bucks South was the No. 14 seed in its 16-team District 1 bracket. The Titans finished second to Central Bucks East in the SOL Colonial Division.
