Welcome to Semifinals Monday in the 2025 WPIAL soccer playoffs with final four matches in girls 4A and 3A along with boys 2A and Class A.
The semifinalists in the girls 4A district playoffs have a golden shine to them due to the great success all four programs have enjoyed recently.
In the last 15 years, Peters Township, North Allegheny, Seneca Valley and Norwin have combined to win 11 of the 15 WPIAL girls soccer crowns in the highest classification.
The Indians, Tigers and Raiders have won three titles each, and the Knights have captured two district championships.
On Monday, top-seeded Peters Township (15-2-2) will battle No. 5 North Allegheny (15-3-2) at Dormont Stadium at 6 p.m. with audio on Trib HSSN.
This is the second meeting of the season between the two with the Tigers edging the Indians, 2-1, on Sept. 25 at NA.
This is also a rematch of a 2024 Class 4A girls soccer semifinal in which Peters Township defeated North Allegheny in overtime, 2-1. The Indians would then beat Seneca Valley in the title match.
Speaking of the Raiders, No. 2 Seneca Valley (11-3-2) will face No. 3 Norwin (15-3) in a clash of section champs at North Allegheny at 6:30 p.m.
The Raiders won the Section 3-4A crown while the Knights took the Section 1-4A title.
These two programs have met twice in the district playoffs in the last six years.
Norwin advanced to the 2019 title game with a 1-0 semifinal win, while two years later, Seneca Valley ousted the Knights in the 2021 quarterfinals in overtime, 4-3.
Recent golden girls square off
Moon won back-to-back WPIAL girls soccer championships in Class 4A in 2021 and in 3A in 2022.
South Fayette has captured district gold in the last two years as the Lions try to follow in the footsteps of the Mars girls who won three in a row in Class 3A in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Section 2 winner and No. 3-seeded Moon (18-1) is set to square off against Section 3 champion and No. 2-seeded South Fayette (17-1-1) at Dormont Stadium at 8 p.m.
These two met in the 2023 WPIAL championship match with the Lions dethroning the Tigers in double overtime, 1-0.
Moon defeated Oakland Catholic and Shaler in the first two rounds of the playoffs by a combined score of 5-1.
In the first two rounds, South Fayette eliminated Elizabeth Forward and Montour by a combined score of 10-3 with the Lions scoring five goals in each match.
In the other 3A semifinal Monday, top-seeded Fox Chapel (17-1-1) will go up against No. 4 Plum (17-1) at Gateway at 6:30 p.m.
The Foxes won the Section 1 title by two games over Mars while the Mustangs took the Section 4 crown this fall by two games over Franklin Regional.
Fox Chapel has cruised in its two playoff matches, blanking Laurel highlands, 7-0, then ousting West Allegheny, 6-2.
It hasn’t been as easy for Plum.
Following a whitewash of Chartiers Valley in the opening round, the Mustangs played a scoreless tie against Mars in the quarterfinals, and then advanced in penalty kicks, 5-4.
Section 2-2A boys soccer shines
The WPIAL Class 2A boys soccer playoffs have nearly become a Section 2-2A block party.
The top three teams in the section separated by three games in the regular season are part of the 2A final four.
The second- and third-place finishers are set to collide for a third time this season when No. 9 Beaver (15-4) will take on No. 4 Avonworth (17-2-1) at Hampton at 6 p.m.
In the regular season, the Antelopes edged the Bobcats twice in mid-September and again in October by scores of 2-1.
Avonworth has yet to give up a goal in the playoffs with shutout wins over McGuffey and Mt. Pleasant by combined scores of 7-0.
Beaver owns the biggest upset of the district soccer playoffs.
After cruising past Charleroi in the opening round, 6-0, the Bobcats stunned top-seeded and two-time defending champion South Park in the quarterfinals, 2-1.
While the second- and third-place teams square off, Section 2 winner and No. 2 Quaker Valley (16-2-1) will clash with No. 6 Deer Lakes (16-3-1) at Hampton at 8 p.m.
The Quakers have won eight straight and are unbeaten in their last 16 matches.
QV rolled past Highlands in the opening round, 5-1, then barely got past Shady Side Academy in the quarters, 3-2.
The Lancers have won seven straight, including a first round triumph over Central Valley, 5-1, and a quarterfinal victory over No. 3 North Catholic, 1-0.
Trying to buck the odds
Now with South Park out in the 2A boys soccer playoffs, Class A top seed Bentworth is alone in trying to make history with a district three-peat.
How odd is it to win three consecutive WPIAL boys soccer championships?
In this century, 16 teams have tried to three-peat in boys soccer and all have failed.
The last program to win three straight WPIAL boys soccer titles was Quaker Valley in 1991, 1992 and 1993.
Bentworth (19-0) looks to remain perfect and move one step closer to history on Monday when it collides with Beaver County Christian (16-2) at Quaker Valley’s Chuck Knox Stadium at 6 p.m.
The Bearcats have been dominant, outscoring their 19 opponents 164-6 this season.
In the playoffs, Bentworth has scored 14 goals in two wins, while their opponents, Brentwood and Eden Christian Academy, were both shut out.
The Eagles have also been stingy this season, allowing only five goals all year and also have two shut outs in the postseason, beating Chartiers-Houston, 5-0, and Neshannock, 3-0.
Bentworth blanked Beaver County Christian in the semifinals last fall, 3-0.
In the other Class A semifinals at Quaker Valley at 8 p.m., No. 2 Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (17-0) battles No. 3 Winchester Thurston (13-4-1).
In the postseason thus far, the Chargers have knocked off Greensburg Central Catholic and Sewickley Academy, 14-1 and 4-1.
The Bears have yet to allow a goal, shutting out Serra Catholic in the opening round, 8-0, and then blanking Aquinas Academy in the quarterfinals, 5-0.
Winchester Thurston has won three WPIAL championships, including back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. OLSH has yet to win a district boys soccer crown.
