A new week of WPIAL girls soccer begins in grand style with first place in all three Class 4A sections up for grabs on Showdown Monday.

In Section 1-4A, Penn-Trafford is 3-0 in the section and 3-2-1 for the season as it prepares to host a Norwin team that is also 3-0 in the section and 4-2 overall.

The Warriors are 3-0-1 in their last four matches and last week outscored Hempfield and Woodland Hills, 19-0, in section victories.

The Knights have won four straight games and have outscored the opposition 22-1 in those contests.

In Section 2-4A, a pair of teams deadlocked for first place with 3-0 section records collide when Mt. Lebanon visits Peters Township.

The Blue Devils are 6-1 for the season and have won three straight games, all section contests, since suffering their only loss of the season at Norwin, 2-1.

The Indians have yet to lose with an overall record of 4-0-2 with shutouts in three of their four triumphs this season.

Finally in Section 3-4A, Seneca Valley sits in first place with a 2-0 section record and an overall mark of 4-1-2 as it welcomes a North Allegheny squad that is 1-0-1 in the section and 6-1-2 overall.

Following a 0-1-2 start, the Raiders have won four straight games, outscoring opponents 15-1 during that run.

The Tigers registered six consecutive shutouts prior to their most recent outing, a 3-1 victory over Allderdice last Wednesday.

More Monday showdowns on the pitch

On a busy night, there are several more first-place battles Monday in district girls soccer.

In Section 3-3A, South Fayette visits Thomas Jefferson.

The Lions are 3-0 in section and 5-1-1 overall with five straight shutout victories.

The Jaguars are also 3-0 atop the section and 5-2 for the season with five consecutive wins by a combined score of 26-4.

In Section 2-2A, Freeport entertains Burrell.

The Yellowjackets are 3-0 in the section and 5-1 overall with four straight wins since suffering their lone loss to Butler.

The Buccaneers are also 3-0 in section play and 4-1-1 this season with three straight shutout wins in which they scored 14 goals.

Boys soccer southern clash

There are only four nonsection matches set for Monday in WPIAL boys soccer.

One of the contests pits an undefeated Class A team against a once-beaten 2A squad when Bentworth hosts Charleroi.

The Bearcats have been dominant as they sit in first place in Section 2-A with a 4-0 section record and 7-0 mark overall.

In those seven victories, the two-time defending district champions have outscored their opponents 60-0.

The Cougars are tied for first place in Section 4-2A with Mt. Pleasant.

Charleroi has won two straight since suffering its only loss of the season to McGuffey two weeks ago.
