The 2025 WPIAL boys individual golf championship field is now set following last week’s sectional qualifiers as golfers prepare to tee off for the first of two rounds on Monday.
The Class 3A boys golfers will play the first 18 of the 36-hole championship Monday at the Willowbrook Country Club in Apollo.
The field consists of 56 golfers with the first group set for an 8 a.m. tee time.
The lowest qualifier was South Fayette senior Sam Bishop.
The golfers in the Class 2A finals are set for first round play at Hillcrest Country Club in Lower Burrell.
A huge field of 92 district golfers will tee off at 9:30 a.m. led by the lowest qualifier, Laurel senior Eli Bintrim.
The Class 3A final round is Sept. 29 at Butler Country Club while the 2A golfers will conclude with final round action at Valleybrook Country Club in Canonsburg on Sept. 30.
Two new champions will be crowned in boys golf next week after seniors Colton Lusk of Peters Township in 3A and Logan Crowe of McGuffey in 2A won gold last year.
The district girls 3A and 2A first round will take place on Tuesday of this week.
Second half begins
The second half of section play in eight WPIAL girls soccer sections gets underway Monday.
The two top teams in Section 4-3A are set to square off for a second time this season when unbeaten Plum visits Franklin Regional.
The Mustangs can take a big step toward a section crown with a road win as they try to improve on their section record of 6-0 and their overall mark of 7-0 for the season.
The host Panthers are alone in second place at 4-1 in the section and 7-2 overall.
In the seven wins for Plum, they have outscored their opponents 38-2.
Franklin Regional has only allowed one goal during a five-game winning streak.
Brenna McLaughlin, Emily Gubich and Gianna Revetta scored for the Mustangs as they defeated the visiting Panthers, 3-1, in August.
Plus has won 33 consecutive section matches.
Class A frays
The top four teams in Section 3-A will go head-to-head Monday.
First place Sewickley Academy (6-0, 7-1) will host Aquinas Academy (3-3, 3-4) at 4:15 p.m., while second-place Seton LaSalle (5-1, 7-2) visits third-place Carlynton (4-2, 4-3-1) at 8 p.m.
In the first meetings, the Panthers shut out the Crusaders, 4-0, and the Rebels outscored the Cougars, 4-2.
The top two teams in Section 1-A are set to battle when front running Riverside (4-0-1, 4-0-1) visits second place Freedom (4-1, 4-3).
In the section opener back in August, the host Panthers edged the Bulldogs, 2-1.
