A new week begins with a busy day of section play on the pitch for WPIAL girls soccer teams.

The top four teams in Section 2-3A will square off Monday.

Moon leads the way with a 3-0 record in the section and a 4-0 mark overall.

Both Montour and West Allegheny are a game back in the win column with 2-0 section records. The Spartans are 4-0 overall and the Indians are 3-3.

Bethel Park is 1-1 in the section and 1-3 for the season.

On Monday, one team tied for first place will drop when Moon visits West Allegheny.

Montour is also on the road, visiting Bethel Park.

Two other matches with first place at stake between teams that have played multiple section games already include:

• Seton LaSalle (3-0, 4-1) visiting Sewickley Academy (2-0, 2-1) in Section 3-A

• Riverview (3-0, 3-0) visiting Winchester Thurston (1-0-1, 3-1-1) in Section 4-A

More early fights for first

Many WPIAL girls soccer sections just started last week and kick into full gear this week.

While it’s still early, it is never too early to get pumped for some matches between teams currently tied for first place.

• In Section 3-4A, Pine-Richland (1-0, 5-0) visits North Allegheny (1-0, 4-1-1) with audio on Trib HSSN

• In Section 3-3A, South Fayette (1-0, 3-1-1) travels to Albert Gallatin (1-0, 1-3)

• In Section 2-2A, Burrell (1-0, 2-1-1) is home to North Catholic (1-0, 5-1)

• In Section 3-2A, Avonworth (2-0, 3-2) hosts Quaker Valley (1-0, 3-1)

• In Section 4-2A, Mt. Pleasant (1-0, 3-0-1) hits to road to face Deer Lakes (1-0, 4-0)

• In Section 2-A, Brownsville (1-0, 4-1) welcomes Chartiers-Houston (1-0, 3-0)

Final four teams collide

Four teams that either lost in the WPIAL finals or district semifinals a year ago will square off in a pair of nonsection girls volleyball matches Monday.

Beaver was the top seed a year ago in the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs and reached the championship game where the Bobcats lost to Mars.

Upper St. Clair was the No. 4 seed in the 4A playoffs and won two postseason matches before falling to eventual champion North Allegheny in the semifinals.

In Class 2A last season, Southmoreland earned the No. 5 seed and was victorious twice in the playoffs before falling to eventual winner Quaker Valley in the semifinals.

Frazier earned the top seed in the Class A playoffs last fall and won three times to reach the district finals before losing to Greensburg Central Catholic in the title match.

On Monday, Upper St. Clair (3-1) hosts Beaver (3-0) and Frazier (2-1) visits Southmoreland (1-1).
