First place in Section 1-3A WPIAL softball will be up for grabs Friday when Mt. Pleasant hosts Southmoreland at 4 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant had won six straight games before back-to-back losses this week to Burrell and Deer Lakes.
The Scotties are 5-2 in section play and 7-4 for the season.
Southmoreland has won two straight and four of their last five games.
The first meeting of the year between these teams was a memorable one April 11.
Southmoreland led what had been a back-and-forth game after five innings, 7-5.
The Vikings scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to go back in front 9-7 before the Scotties answered with four runs in their half of the sixth to go back ahead, 11-9.
Mt. Pleasant scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, then shut Southmoreland down in the bottom of the inning to hold on for a wild win, 12-11.

A win keeps Butler in second place behind North Allegheny in the section.

This is the final section game for Central Catholic, which sits at 2-9 in the section and 5-9 overall.

5A Friday fray

Currently, Chartiers Valley is 6-1, West Allegheny is 5-1 and South Fayette is 5-2.
On Friday, while Chartiers Valley is home to last-place Montour, the other two teams battle for the second time this week. West Allegheny visits South Fayette at 3:45 p.m.
