Three Class 6A three-game section series will conclude Thursday with a rubber game and two teams going for sweeps.

Second place will be on the line in Section 1-6A when Seneca Valley (1-1, 3-3) hosts Central Catholic (1-1, 4-1) at 4 p.m.

The Vikings won Monday at SV, 7-6, while the Raiders bounced back Tuesday and won in Russellton, 8-4.

Also in the section, Butler (2-0, 5-0) looks to sweep North Hills (0-2, 2-5) when the two meet for a third time in four days.

The Golden Tornado pounded the Indians by 10 runs in the opener, followed by a one-run triumph at Pullman Park on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the section, Canon-McMillan (1-0, 5-1) will visit Woodland Hills (0-1, 2-2) at All-American Park in Trafford. The Big Macs will remain alone in first place with another victory over the Wolverines.

Volleyball dandies

Most WPIAL boys volleyball teams began section play earlier this week; however, it’s never too early for a big section match.

Two victorious teams in their Section 3-3A openers collide Thursday when Butler visits North Allegheny.

The Golden Tornado has a record of 4-2 overall in this young season while the traditional power Tigers are 4-0.

You can listen to the match here on Trib HSSN at 7 p.m.

Also on Thursday, the two teams that won WPIAL championships in 2023 meet in an early Section 2-2A key match when Shaler visits North Catholic.

The Titans won their section opener last week and are 3-1 overall.

The Trojans are off to a 2-0 start atop the section and have won four of their five matches in 2025.

Finally in Section 4-2A, unbeaten Ambridge visits Our Lady of the Sacred Heart with the winner taking over at least a share of first place.

The Bridgers knocked off Trinity in their section opener on Tuesday while the Chargers won on the road at Montour.

Lax section separators

In Section 2-2A boys lacrosse, four teams are unbeaten in early section play.

Two of them square off Thursday when Shaler hosts Sewickley Academy.

The host Titans are 1-0 in the section and 3-1 overall.

The Panthers are 2-0 in section play, tied with Mars and Hampton for first place.

The Fightin’ Planets and Talbots collide on Friday at Mars.

Tennis singles sectionals conclude

The district continues to prepare for the first championship tournament of the spring sports season with the conclusion of the boys tennis singles sectionals Thursday.

Each Class 3A and 2A section will hold tournaments to determine the final field of players for the WPIAL boys singles tennis championships, which begin next Tuesday, April 8.

The top four finishers in each sectional qualify for the district tournament.
