Tuesday marks the final day of the WPIAL soccer regular season with one boys soccer match taking place for all the section marbles.
The Section 4-2A crown is up for grabs when Mt. Pleasant hosts Charleroi at 7:30 p.m.
Both the Vikings and Cougars have 13 total wins and they have identical 12-1 section records heading into the de facto section title match.
Mt. Pleasant has won six consecutive matches since a nonsection loss to South Park on Sept. 20, allowing only one goal in those six games.
Charleroi has captured victories in two straight and eight of its last nine matches.
Both teams have clinched playoff berths and are now playing for a section crown and for seeding in the Class 2A playoffs with the winner taking first place and the loser settling for second place.
If the two teams tie, they will have the same record, but Charleroi would be section champion based on the head-to-head tiebreaker.
In the first meeting between the teams, Adolph Noel, Blake Pendo and Dylan Klinger scored as the Cougars blanked the Vikings, 3-0.
Final playoff spots
There are still two and possibly three district boys soccer playoff berths still up for grabs on the final night of section play.
While the Class 4A and 2A playoff fields are set, one spot in 3A and possibly two in Class A will be clinched Tuesday.
• In Section 2-3A, Bethel Park, Thomas Jefferson, Trinity and Ringgold have already clinched. If Laurel Highlands beats visiting Albert Gallatin and Ringgold falls at home to Bethel Park, the Mustangs can earn a postseason berth.
• In Section 3-A, OLSH, Aquinas Academy and Serra Catholic have clinched. Bishop Canevin can clinch a playoff berth with home win against Aquinas Academy on Tuesday. If Bishop Canevin loses, Brentwood qualifies. If Bishop Canevin and Aquinas Academy tie, both the Crusaders and Spartans will clinch playoff berths.
Final week
The final week of the regular season begins in WPIAL girls volleyball with a busy night of section matches in all four classifications.
While some playoff berths could be determined, only one match has head-to-head section title ramifications Tuesday.
In Section 2-3A, Hampton and Mars are tied for first place with two section matches remaining with records of 7-1, one game in front of Freeport at 6-2.
On Tuesday, Freeport hosts Hampton while Mars visit Knoch (3-5).
