It’s officially the halfway point of section play in WPIAL girls soccer with plenty of action on the pitch Wednesday.

Of the 15 district sections in girls soccer, only one section is deadlocked at the top at the midway point.

In Section 2-3A, both Montour and Moon have defeated West Allegheny, Blackhawk, Chartiers Valley, Bethel Park and Trinity.

The Spartans and Tigers are both 5-0 in the section. Montour is 7-1 overall and Moon has won six of its seven games.

Both teams have registered four shutouts in their five section victories as the Spartans and Tigers have combined to outscore their section foes this season, 54-2.

In the first of two meetings this season on Wednesday, Moon visits Montour at 7:30 p.m.

The Tigers have won two games in a row since suffering their only loss of the season to Class 4A Pine-Richland in overtime, 2-1.

Following six straight wins, the Spartans fell last week to Franklin Regional, 3-0, before rebounding in their most recent contest, a shutout of Trinity.

Another battle Wednesday between two teams yet to lose in their section has Central Valley hosting Quaker Valley for first place in Section 2-2A.

The Warriors are 3-0-1 in the section and 4-1-1 overall, while the Quakers check in with a 3-0 section mark and a season record of 6-1.

Central Valley has won four straight while Quaker Valley has won six consecutive matches after falling to Pine-Richland in late August.

Share of 1st up for grabs

They might not be for first place outright like the two matches mentioned above, but there are two WPIAL Class 2A girls soccer matches Wednesday between the top two teams in a section with a possible share of first place up for grabs.

In Section 1-2A, South Park (5-0, 9-0) is alone in first place; Belle Vernon (4-1-1, 6-2-1) is in second place while Keystone Oaks (4-1, 5-5) is right behind.

The undefeated Eagles head to Dormont Stadium to battle the Golden Eagles, who have won two of their last three matches.

In Section 4-2A, Mt. Pleasant (4-0, 6-1-1) leads the way, followed closely by Deer Lakes (3-1, 8-1) and Yough (3-1, 4-4).

The Vikings, winners of three in a row, host the Cougars, who have won four straight after losing their first four games.

Inaugural gold

The first district championship of the new 2025-2026 school year begins Wednesday with the first three rounds of the WPIAL girls singles tennis championships.

The first round, quarterfinals and semifinals of the Class 3A tournament take place at Bethel Park on Wednesday while the first three rounds of the 2A playoff tournament will be held at North Allegheny.

Shady Side Academy junior Meriweather McCargo is the top seed in 3A and Belle Vernon senior Gabrielle Dusi is the No. 1 seed and receives a first-round bye in the 2A tourney.

Both McCargo and Dusi are trying to win their third straight WPIAL championship.

The consolation and championship finals will be at North Allegheny on Thursday afternoon.
