The 2025 WPIAL girls individual golf championship field is now set as golfers prepare to tee off for the first of two rounds Tuesday.
Both the Class 3A and 2A girls golfers will play the first 18 of the 36-hole championship Tuesday at the Seven Oaks Country Club in Beaver.
The Class 3A field consists of 38 golfers with the first group set for an 8 a.m. tee time.
Two former district 3A champions are set for the first playing group of four golfers, including defending champion Ellie Benson of Peters Township and 2023 winner Mya Morgan of Elizabeth Forward, both seniors.
A smaller field is set to compete in 2A with only 18 golfers with the first group teeing off at 9:30 a.m.
The lowest qualifier in the field is Chartiers-Houston sophomore JoJo Jaskulski, who shot an impressive 67 in the sectionals last week.
Also in the first group of four is the defending WPIAL champion, Shady Side Academy sophomore Alyssa Zhang.
The final round of the 3A and 2A girls individual golf championships will take place next Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the Sewickley Heights Golf Club in Sewickley.
On the boys side, the Class 3A final round is Monday, Sept. 29 at the Butler Country Club while the 2A golfers will conclude with final round action at the Valleybrook Country Club in Canonsburg on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Three for one
The second half of section play in WPIAL boys soccer begins Tuesday in both Class 3A and Class 2A.
The direction of the section over the next three weeks could be decided with three matches where a share of first place is up for grabs.
• In Section 1-3A, first-place Hampton hosts second-place Mars.
• The Talbots are 5-0-1 in the section and 7-7-1 overall, while the Fighting Planets check in at 4-1-1 in section play and 6-4-1 for the season.
In the section opener in late August, the teams played to a scoreless tie at Mars.
• In Section 1-2A, first-place Deer Lakes welcomes second-place North Catholic.
The Lancers are perfect in section play at 7-0 and have an overall record of 9-2. The Trojans are 7-1 in the section and 9-1-1 overall.
North Catholic suffered its only loss of the season in the section opener at home, falling to Deer Lakes, 3-0.
• In Section 2-2A, Beaver visits Quaker Valley in a battle between teams tied for the top spot.
The Bobcats have the same section and overall record at 7-1, while the Quakers are 7-1 in the section and 8-2 for the season.
In the first meeting of the season, Beaver blanked Quaker Valley, 1-0.
Avonworth is 6-1 in the section and 8-1 overall. The Antelopes on Tuesday visit Riverside (2-6, 2-7).
Curtain closes on first half
The curtain comes down on the first half of section play in WPIAL girls volleyball with a handful of district showdowns.
The marquee match of the night is a rematch of the 2024 WPIAL Class 4A girls volleyball finals as North Allegheny visits North Catholic.
The Tigers downed the Trojans in the district title match last fall, 3-1.
In this decade, North Allegheny has captured four Class 4A crowns while North Catholic has won two 2A and one 3A WPIAL championship in the last five years.
Thus far this season, both teams are 4-0 in Section 2-4A. The Trojans are 5-1 overall and the Tigers are 5-2.
The four other matches where first place is up for grabs Tuesday include:
• In Section 5-3A, Indiana (5-0, 7-1) visits Greensburg Salem (5-0, 7-0)
• In Section 1-2A, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (6-0, 7-1) visits Hopewell (6-0, 8-0)
• In a tight Section 4-2A race, Neshannock (4-1, 6-1) travels to Mohawk (4-1, 6-2)
• In Section 1-A, Apollo-Ridge (2-1, 4-2) welcomes St. Joseph (3-1, 5-4). Springdale (3-1, 3-5) is also tied for first as it visits rival Riverview (0-3, 0-6)
