Woodland Hills and five other WPIAL football teams will take part in a two-day Week Zero event at the Wolvarena this fall.

There are six games scheduled Aug. 24-25 at the Turtle Creek stadium with each contest matching a WPIAL team against an opponent from a different PIAA district or another state. The other WPIAL participants are Aliquippa, Central Catholic, Imani Christian, McKeesport and Peters Township.

The 8 p.m. finale Aug. 24 matches Central Catholic with Erie’s Cathedral Prep. On Aug. 25, Woodland Hills faces Woodrow Wilson of Washington D.C. at 8 p.m.

Details were announced Thursday.

“We’ve done similar things at the Wolvarena before … and I like that it gives the kids some exposure,” Woodland Hills football coach/assistant athletic director Tim Bostard said, “and they get to play kids who aren’t from our area.”

In the event’s first matchup, Peters Township plays West Toronto Prep at 5 p.m. on Aug. 24.

On Aug. 25, Imani Christian plays Union/AC Valley at 11 a.m., McKeesport plays Erie High at 2 p.m., and Aliquippa plays McKinley Tech at 5 p.m.
