WPIAL announces pairings for 2023 field hockey playoffs

Defending WPIAL field hockey champions Pine-Richland and Penn-Trafford each earned No. 1 seeds Tuesday when the WPIAL playoff brackets were announced.
Pine-Richland (17-0) was seeded first in Class 3A, and Penn-Trafford (16-2) was first in 2A. The top seed in Class A went to Shady Side Academy (8-5).
Each classification has a four-team bracket. The semifinals are Saturday at the higher seed’s home site. The finals are Nov. 4 at Washington & Jefferson.
The champion from each classification qualifies for the state playoffs.
Class 3A
Semifinals
No. 4 North Allegheny (8-8-2) at No. 1 Pine-Richland (17-0), noon Saturday
No. 3 Mt. Lebanon (10-3-3) at No. 2 Peters Township (12-4-2), noon Saturday
Championship
Semifinal winners at Washington & Jefferson’s Cameron Stadium at 4 p.m. Nov. 4
Class 2A
Semifinals
No. 4 Latrobe (5-6-2) at No. 1 Penn-Trafford (16-2), noon Saturday
No. 3 Upper St. Clair (5-9-1) at No. 2 Fox Chapel (11-6), noon Saturday
Championship
Semifinal winners at Washington & Jefferson’s Cameron Stadium at 2 p.m. Nov. 4
Class A

No. 4 Ellis School (0-11) at No. 1 Shady Side Academy (8-5), noon Saturday
No. 3 Winchester Thurston (2-9) vs No. 2 Aquinas Academy (6-3-1) at Shady Side Academy, 2 p.m. Saturday
