The WPIAL offices will have a new face as the league has hired Brian Geyer as the new full-time associate executive director.

Geyer has resigned as athletic director at Peters Township.

He is now second in command of the district behind executive director Vince Sortino.

Sortino moved up to district leader in January after former executive director Scott Seltzer retired at the end of 2025.

Geyer has been an athletic director for two decades, first at Seton LaSalle, then for the last 15 years at Peters Township.

“I really enjoyed being an athletic director the past 20 years,” Geyer said. “This opportunity presented itself, and I felt it was the right thing to do for my family, as my kids are getting a little older.”

Geyer has been very active in the district through the years.

He was the president of the WPIAL’s Board of Directors, and he has already resigned from that position effective Feb. 28.

As president of the District 7 board, he also sat on the PIAA Board of Directors.

Geyer also is part of the 12-person district basketball steering committee.

“I’m happy for Brian,” Mt. Lebanon athletic director and WPIAL vice-president John Grogan said. “He has done such a good job as AD and put a ton of time in with the WPIAL and PIAA board as well as the basketball committee. I believe he is well suited for this position and will do a great job.”

During his time at Peters Township, he oversaw the building of the AHN Arena, which was part of the new high school that opened in 2021.

The arena has hosted many WPIAL and PIAA basketball playoff games and has recently been the home of the district volleyball championships.

“Brian brings a tremendous wealth of experience to this role, not only as an athletic director, but also through his leadership as a member and current president of the WPIAL Board of Directors,” Bethel Park athletic director and WPIAL board member Laura Grimm said. “That combination gives him a unique understanding of both the day-to-day realities schools face and the broader perspective needed at the league level.

“We are certainly going to miss him on the athletic director side, but we’re excited that he’ll continue to lead and support our profession in a new capacity. I think this will be a great fit for him professionally and personally.”
