WPIAL Class 5A football roundup: Bethel Park tops South Fayette, stays in playoff hunt

Ja Vaughn Moore ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns as Bethel Park earned a 49-29 victory over South Fayette (4-5, 1-3) in Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference play Friday night.
Tanner Pfeuffer threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns for Bethel Park (4-5, 3-1), which remains in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Nico Lamonde threw for 421 yards and four touchdowns for South Fayette while teammate Michael Gimigliano caught 10 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns.
Gateway 48, Norwin 20 — Brad Birch threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 71 yards and a TD to lead No. 5 Gateway (5-4, 5-0) to the Big East Conference win at Norwin (2-7, 1-3). Tristyn Tavares threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Plum 38, Hempfield 20 — Darian Nelson caught nine passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns as Plum (3-6, 1-4) beat Hempfield (1-8, 0-4) in the Big East Conference. Sean Franzi threw for 216 yards and one touchdown and ran for a TD for Plum while teammate Nick Odom rushed for 134 yards. Dominic Detruf threw for 218 yards and a touchdown for Hempfield.
Penn Hills 14, Shaler 0 — In the Northeast Conference, Julian Dugger threw for 94 yards and one touchdown and ran for 112 yards and a 68-yard TD as No. 2 Penn Hills (7-2, 4-0) beat Shaler (4-5, 0-4).
Kiski Area 39, Fox Chapel 8 — Carson Heinle threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns as Class 4A Kiski Area (4-5) defeated Class 5A Fox Chapel (0-9). The Cavaliers’ Isaiah Gonzalez caught four passes for 109 yards and a touchdown and returned an interception 85 yards for another score while teammate Landon Kucic ran for 116 yards and two TDs.
Mt. Lebanon 37, Baldwin 6 — Fred LaSota rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns as Class 6A No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (5-4) beat Class 5A Baldwin (1-8). Michael Malone threw for 104 yards and one touchdown and ran for another TD for Mt. Lebanon.
North Allegheny 41, Penn-Trafford 14 — Tyree Alualu ran for two touchdowns and returned an interception 80 yards for another as Class 6A No. 2 North Allegheny (8-1) defeated Class 5A Penn-Trafford (4-5). Johnny Lovre tossed for 137 yards in the loss.
North Hills 16, Franklin Regional 14 — In nonconference play, Connor Davis threw two touchdown passes as North Hills (4-5) beat Franklin Regional (6-3). Kyle Dupil ran for 213 yards and both Franklin Regional touchdowns.
Peters Township 23, Canon-McMillan 10 — Vinny Sarcone rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns as Class 5A No. 1 Peters Township (9-0) beat Class 6A No. 3 Canon-McMillan (5-4). Nolan DiLucia threw for 204 yards and a touchdown for Peters Township while Zachary Welsh ran for 119 yards and a TD for Canon-McMillan.
