WPIAL Class A football roundup: Bishop Canevin holds off Cornell in Black Hills

Kole Olszewski threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns to lead top-ranked Bishop Canevin to a 21-13 win at Cornell (6-1, 3-1) in the Class A Black Hills Conference on Friday night.
Jason Cross caught two touchdowns, and Jayden Lindsey had the other for the Crusaders (5-1, 3-1).
Laurel 28, Northgate 12 — In the Big 7 Conference, Ben Hennon rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns to lead Laurel (2-5, 1-2) to the victory over Northgate (4-3, 2-2). Jackson Saunders threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns and ran for one TD for Laurel.
South Side 62, Shenango 12 — Quarterback Brody Almashy threw for 50 yards and a touchdown and ran for 106 yards and three TDs to lead No. 2 South Side (7-0, 3-0) over Shenango (3-4, 1-3) in Big 7 Conference play. Ryan Navarra added 112 rushing yards and a touchdown for South Side, which scored 35 points in the second quarter.
Union 46, Rochester 28 — No. 5 Union (6-1, 3-0) defeated Rochester (4-2, 2-2) in a Big 7 Conference contest.
Carlynton 32, Chartiers-Houston 24 — Ryan Lewis caught a 16-yard scoring pass from Devonte Dean, ran for a 10-yard touchdown and returned a kickoff 87 yards for another TD as Carlynton (2-5, 1-3) overcame a 16-0 first-quarter deficit to defeat Chartiers-Houston (0-7, 0-4) in Black Hills Conference play.
Fort Cherry 42, Avella 8 — Evan Rogers caught two touchdowns passes from Matt Sieg while Evan Rogers added two rushing TDs as Fort Cherry (7-0, 4-0) beat Avella (3-4, 1-3) in the Black Hills Conference.
Clairton 65, Springdale 17 — The Dynamos (1-6, 0-3) jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the first quarter before the Bears (5-2, 4-0) took control for a Class A Eastern Conference win.
Greensburg Central Catholic 31, Frazier 8 — Samir Crosby ran for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (4-3, 2-1) to a Class A Eastern Conference victory over Frazier (0-7, 0-4). Tyree Turner scored on a 22-yard run and connected with Nick Dlugos on a 78-yard scoring pass.
Beth-Center 52, Bentworth 37 — Ethan Varesko ran for 438 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries to lead Beth-Center (3-4, 3-1) to the Tri-County South win against Bentworth (2-5, 1-3). Vitali Daniels threw for 189 yards and ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns for Bentworth.
California 44, West Greene 12 — California (6-1, 4-0) beat West Greene (5-2, 3-1) in a Tri-County South matchup.
Monessen 14, Carmichaels 13 — Rodney Johnson and Lorenzo Gardner scored second-quarter touchdowns as Monessen (2-5, 1-3) defeated Carmichaels (2-5, 1-3) in Tri-County South play.
Jefferson-Morgan 50, Mapletown 21 — In the Tri-County South, Houston Guseman threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 122 yards and one TD to lead Jefferson-Morgan (4-3, 3-1) to the win at Mapletown (2-5, 0-4). A.J. Vanata threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
