WPIAL clinched: Girls volleyball playoff scenarios, qualifiers through Oct. 12, 2025

The 2025 WPIAL girls volleyball regular season is winding down with only one week remaining, and 58 district teams have clinched a postseason berth.

The top four teams in each of the sections with seven or more teams and the top three teams in each of the sections with six or less teams qualify for the district playoffs. All teams tied for a playoff spot in which head-to-head does not break the tie qualify for the postseason.

Here is the latest list of teams that qualified for the WPIAL girls volleyball playoffs through Sunday, plus the playoff picture for the postseason berths still up for grabs.

Class 4A: 10 of a possible 15 teams have clinched a playoff berth

Section 1

Peters Township Indians

Upper St. Clair Panthers

Canon-McMillan Big Macs

Section 2

North Allegheny Tigers

North Catholic Trojans

• Pine-Richland (4-4) and Seneca Valley (4-4) are tied for third place. Pine-Richland faces North Hills (0-8) and Seneca Valley takes on North Catholic (6-2) on Tuesday. On Thursday, Pine-Richland hosts Butler (2-6) and Seneca Valley is home to North Hills (0-8). If the Rams and Raiders finish in a tie, both teams will qualify for the playoffs.

Section 3

Hempfield Spartans

Penn-Trafford Warriors

• Latrobe (4-4) and Norwin (4-4) are tied for third place. Latrobe is at Connellsville (0-8) on Tuesday and home to Hempfield (7-1) on Thursday. Norwin hosts Penn-Trafford (7-1) on Tuesday and visits Plum (2-6) on Thursday. If the Wildcats and Knights finished tied, they will both qualify for the playoffs.

Kiski Area Cavaliers

Fox Chapel Foxes

• Armstrong (3-5) can qualify for the playoffs with a home in over Fox Chapel (5-3) on Tuesday and a win at Shaler (8-0) on Thursday and a Fox Chapel loss at Armstrong (3-5) on Thursday.

Class 3A: Set with 18 playoff teams; there will be two preliminary round matches

• Keystone Oaks (5-7) can qualify with wins over Carlynton (7-5) and East Allegheny (2-10) and a Carlynton loss to Seton LaSalle (11-1).

Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers

• McGuffey (7-4) can clinch with one more win over Chartiers-Houston (8-3), Washington (4-6) or Waynesburg Central (12-0). Washington needs to win out and have McGuffey lose at least two more section matches.

Mohawk Warriors

• Shenango (6-4) can clinch with a win Tuesday against Laurel (5-5) or a win against Ellwood City (1-9) on Thursday. Laurel needs to beat Shenango and defeat Riverside (8-2) or have Shenango lose to Ellwood City.

Section 5

Burrell Buccaneers

Southmoreland Scotties

Deer Lakes Lancers

Class A: 13 of a possible 19 teams have clinched a playoff berth

Section 1

St. Joseph Spartans

Apollo-Ridge Vikings

• Springdale (5-3) can clinch with a win over Leechburg (2-6) on Tuesday or against Riverview (0-8) on Thursday. Aquinas Academy (4-4) needs a combination of wins over Apollo-Ridge (6-2) and Leechburg (2-6) and one Springdale section loss or one more section win and two Springdale losses. If the Dynamos and Crusaders finished tied, both will qualify for the playoffs.

Section 2

Rochester Rams

Beaver County Christian Eagles

• Western Beaver (5-3) can clinch with a win over Rochester (7-1) on Tuesday or against South Side (2-6) on Thursday. Union (4-4) needs a combination of wins over South Side and Beaver County Christian (6-2) and one Western Beaver section loss or one more section win and two Western Beaver losses. If the Golden Beavers and Scotties finished tied, both will qualify for the playoffs.

Carmichaels Mighty Mikes

• Jefferson-Morgan (3-5) and Mapletown (3-5) would need to win their final two section matches and have West Greene (5-3) or Carmichaels (5-3) lose both of their section matches to have a chance via tiebreaker.
