WPIAL football players to watch for Week 8

Here’s a look at four WPIAL football players to watch in Week 8:

Zachary Benedek

Elizabeth Forward, Sr., QB

Benedek (6-1, 185) threw for 103 yards and a score and ran for 82 yards as Elizabeth Forward rolled to a 55-13 win over Mt. Pleasant. This season, he has scored nine times for the Warriors, who head to Uniontown for a Class 3A Big East game Friday.

William Gipson

Aliquippa, Sr., WR

Gipson (6-3, 175) got Aliquippa off to a fast start last week, with first-quarter touchdown receptions of 40 and 71 yards. He added a 7-yard TD reception later and finished with five catches for 169 yards. He has 31 catches for 958 yards and 11 scores for the Quips, who host Keystone Oaks in a Class 3A Tri-County West game Friday.

Gabe Lawson

Seneca Valley, Jr., QB/SB

Lawson (6-2, 190) threw for 170 yards a touchdown as Seneca Valley beat Woodland Hills, 24-7, last week in a nonconference game. He has thrown for 900 yards and nine touchdowns and run for 290 and six this year for the Raiders, who play at Pine-Richland in a Class 6A showdown Friday.

Antonio Orsini

Upper St. Clair, Sr., RB/LB

Orsini (5-11, 190) has racked up 841 yards and six touchdowns this season for Upper St. Clair. He ran for 73 yards on 20 carries in last week’s 24-16 win over Moon. The Panthers host Chartiers Valley in a Class 5A Allegheny 8 game Friday.
