WPIAL football players to watch for Week 9

Here’s a look at four WPIAL football players to watch in Week 9:
Christian Clutter
McGuffey, Sr., RB/FS
Clutter ran for 194 yards and six touchdowns on just 16 carries in last week’s 57-42 victory over Avonworth. Clutter has run for 1,162 yards and 32 touchdowns this season. He will try to lead McGuffey to a share of the Class 2A Century Conference title in a matchup with Washington on Friday.
Konota Gaskins
McKeesport, Sr., QB/FS
Gaskins completed 3 of 6 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s 36-16 win over Franklin Regional in the Class 5A Big East Conference. This season, he has thrown for nearly 700 yards and 12 scores and run for a team-high 550 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Tigers will look to claim a share of the conference title against No. 1-ranked Gateway this Friday in Monroeville.
Hollis Mathis
Penn Hills, Sr., QB
Mathis completed 14 of 22 passes for 205 yards and a score in an 18-0 win over Baldwin last week. He has thrown for 1,922 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. No. 2-ranked Penn Hills can lock up the Class 5A Northern Conference title with a win at North Hills on Friday.
Gavin Thomson
Central Catholic, SR., WR/FS
The top target in Central Catholic’s passing attack, Thomson has caught 31 passes for 482 yards and five touchdowns. He and the Vikings will host Mt. Lebanon in a Class 6A matchup at Highmark Stadium on Friday night. With a victory, the Vikings can lock up the No. 3 seed in the WPIAL playoffs.
