WPIAL football roundup: Moon tops North Hills in shootout

Cole Konieczka threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns as Moon defeated North Hills, 38-31, in a WPIAL Class 5A Allegheny 9 Conference game Friday night.
Brady Sunday, Konieczka and Jamal Littlejohn had rushing touchdowns and Jake Dunning and Ramone Dean caught 67- and 27-yard passes for scores for Moon (3-2, 2-1).
Will Hirt threw for 318 yards and four touchdowns for North Hills (2-3, 1-3).
Class 6A
North Allegheny 29, Butler 7 — In the Northern Seven Conference, Turner White ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns to lead North Allegheny (3-2, 2-1) to the win at Butler (1-3, 0-3). Luke Trueman added 123 passing yards and a TD for the Tigers. Butler's offense was paced by Luke Michalek's 137 rushing yards.
Mt. Lebanon 63, Altoona 14 — James Stocker threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (4-1, 3-0) to the Southeastern Conference win at Altoona (1-4, 0-3). Aiden Cain caught four passes for 124 yards and a touchdown and teammate Austin Graybill added four receptions for 101 yards and two TDs. Cain is just seven yards shy of 1000 yards receiving this season through five games.
Class 5A
West Allegheny 40, Baldwin 11 — Dante Flati rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown and Will Weber and Tyler Gallant ran for two touchdowns each as top-ranked West Allegheny (4-0, 4-0) beat visiting Baldwin (0-4, 0-4) in the Allegheny 9 Conference.
Kiski Area 42, Connellsville 7 — Ross Greece scored on three short touchdown runs, and Troy Kuhn returned an interception 30 yards for a score as Kiski Area (1-4, 1-3) won a Big East Conference game.
McKeesport 48, Plum 14 — The Tigers pounced on the Mustangs early and often as No. 5-ranked McKeesport put up 41 first-half points to deal upstart Plum a Big East Conference loss. McKeesport (3-1, 3-1) running back Layton Jordan scored on touchdown runs of 75, 61 and 76 yards and had 284 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback John Harper added 153 yards and two rushing touchdowns and Carlinos Acie collected 123 yards rushing on four carries and two touchdowns.
Class 4A
Thomas Jefferson 69, Albert Gallatin 0 — Justin Vigna ran for 143 yards and three touchdowns as top-ranked Thomas Jefferson (4-0, 4-0) blanked Albert Gallatin (1-3, 1-3) in the Big 9 Conference. Shane Stump threw for 148 yards and two TDs while Jared Collington and Max Shaw scored on interception returns of 49 and 20 yards, respectively. The Jaguars led 55-0 at halftime.
West Mifflin 42, Uniontown 0 — Parrish Parker ran for three touchdowns as West Mifflin (3-1, 2-1) blanked Uniontown (0-5, 0-3) in the Big 9 Conference.
Montour 42, Ambridge 0 — Kavon Morman threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns to Brandon Lipford as No. 5 Montour (3-1, 3-1) won Northwest Nine contest.
South Fayette 52, Knoch 14 — Drew Saxton threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 2 South Fayette (5-0, 3-0) to the Northwest Nine win at Knoch (1-3, 1-2). Johnny Beck rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns and returned a fumble 64 yards for another score for South Fayette, which led 45-7 at halftime.
Class 3A
Aliquippa 32, Ellwood City 0 — In the Beaver Valley Conference, Avante McKenzie ran for 125 yards and a touchdown to lead top-ranked Aliquippa (5-0, 3-0) the shutout at Ellwood City (1-3, 1-3).
Apollo-Ridge 28, Burrell 19 — Freshman Logan Harmon carried the ball 18 times for 159 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Vikings (4-1, 2-1) to an Allegheny Conference victory over the Bucs (1-4, 0-3). Apollo-Ridge rallied from a 19-7 halftime deficit. Logan Bitar finished with 210 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for Burrell.
Freeport 24, Shady Side Academy 17 — Austin Romanchak's 1-yard quarterback plunge with 2:17 remaining gave the Yellowjackets the winning score in an Allegheny Conference game. Romanchak rushed for 88 yards and three TDs for Freeport (3-1, 2-0), which overcame a 10-point third-quarter deficit. Conor Selinger added 87 yards rushing. Skyy Moore passed for 182 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 129 yards for Shady Side Academy (2-2, 2-2), while Dino Tomlin caught six passes for 167 yards and two scores.
Valley 26, Deer Lakes 20 — Valley (1-3, 1-2) got into the win column behind 286 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Deonte Ross in an Allegheny Conference game. Deer Lakes (0-4, 0-3) was led by quarterback Ethan Bender, who entered in the second half and collected 112 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Elizabeth Forward 56, McGuffey 21 — Zachary Benedek threw for 357 yards and five touchdowns to lead Elizabeth Forward (3-1, 3-0) to the Interstate win over McGuffey (3-2, 2-1). Gavin Martik caught eight passes for 204 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
Class 2A
Burgettstown 63, Chartiers-Houston 0 — Burgettstown (4-0, 3-0) scored 57 points in the first half on way to its easy Century Conference win against Chartiers-Houston (0-5, 0-3). Jake Lounder ran for two touchdowns while Burgettstown's defense scored twice — on a 47-yard interception return by Cole Strain and a 35-yard fumble return by Jarred John.
Beth-Center 55, Bentworth 28 — Bailey Lincoski completed 10 of 12 passes for 200 yards and four touchdowns to lead Beth-Center (5-0, 2-0) to a Century Conference victory at Bentworth (2-3, 2-2). Dominic Fundy ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns Dylan Dingle caught a scoring pass and returned an interception 62 yards for another TD for Beth-Center, which scored 34 points in the second quarter.
Washington 12, Frazier 0 — Nick Welsh rushed for 181 yards and a touchdown as No. 2 Washington (4-0, 3-0) shut out Frazier (0-5, 0-4) in Century Conference play. Zach Swartz added 106 passing yards and a 37-yard scoring pass to Isaiah Schoonmaker to account for Washington's other touchdown.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 31, New Brighton 28 — Zack Rocco hit Nickhai Hill-Green with two 27-yard touchdown passes in the fourth quarter as Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (3-2, 3-0) overcame a 21-point deficit to defeat New Brighton (0-5, 0-4). Rocco threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns and teammate Joe Meinert ran 31 times for 174 yards. Jackson Hall threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns for New Brighton, which led 28-15 heading into the final quarter.
Freedom 42, Laurel 20 — Zach Rosa threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns as No. 5 Freedom (4-1, 2-0) beat Midwestern Conference opponent Laurel (1-4, 1-3). Cody Ross ran for three touchdowns for Freedom. Lance Hill ran for 100 yards and two scores for Laurel.
Riverside 50, South Side 12 — LeMarcus Cleckley ran five times for 116 yards and touchdowns of 34, 13 and 57 yards as No. 4 Riverside (3-1, 3-0) beat South Side (2-3, 1-2) in the Midwestern Conference. Riverside led 43-12 at halftime.
Avonworth 20, Brentwood 6 — Derek Johncour threw for 139 yards and two touchdowns as Avonworth (2-2, 2-2) beat Brentwood (2-3, 1-2) in the Three Rivers Conference. JJ Igims rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Steel Valley 31, South Allegheny 27 — Kameron Williams ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns and Trevon Adams added 123 rushing yards as top-ranked Steel Valley (4-0, 2-0) edged South Allegheny (1-3, 1-2) for the Three Rivers Conference win. Amonte Strothers caught three passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns for the Ironmen. Brandon Nolder threw for 205 yards and three TDs for South Allegheny.
Class A
Northgate 17, Sto-Rox 14 — Herman Darjee's 25-yard field goal with 25 seconds left in the game gave Northgate (2-2, 2-2) the Big 7 win over Sto-Rox (0-5, 0-4). Surron Adams ran for 139 yards and a touchdown in the win. Davonte Williams rushed for 154 yards and both of Sto-Rox's touchdowns.
Rochester 49, Cornell 12 — Mahlik Strozier ran for 143 yards and No. 3 Rochester's first four touchdowns in its Big 7 win at Cornell (0-4, 0-3). Caleb Collins added 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Rochester, which scored 29 points in the second quarter. Zaier Harrison threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns for Cornell.
California 63, Mapletown 8 — Jelani Stafford ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries as No. 5 California (5-0, 3-0) defeated Mapletown (2-3, 1-2). Both of Colin Phillips' completions were touchdowns — a 53-yard pass to Cochise Ryan and an 85-yard pass to Jordan Campbell. Mapletown's Dylan Rush, who ran for 524 yards last week, was held to 87 rushing yards and Mapletown's only touchdown.
Carmichaels 47, Avella 14 — Caleb Gallagher threw for four touchdowns as Carmichaels (3-1, 3-0) defeated Avella (0-5, 0-4) in the Tri-County South. Dylan Wilson caught two of Callagher's touchdown passes for 45 and 68 yards.
Fort Cherry 42, Shenango 35 — In nonconference play, Ryhan Culberson ran for 222 yards and four touchdowns and returned a punt 67 yards for another TD as Fort Cherry (3-1) beat Shanango (2-2). Maxwell Reamer threw for 130 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores to pace Shenango.
East Allegheny 14, Neshannock 7 — Tamaine Underwood threw for 240 yards and a 62-yard touchdown pass to Ronnie McGill as Class 2A No. 3 East Allegheny (3-1) beat Neshannock (2-3) in nonconference play. McGill caught seven passes for 119 yards. Jared Staph tossed for 110 yards for Neshannock.
Gateway 40, Hampton 14 — In nonconference play, Brady Walker threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns to lead Class 5A No. 3 Gateway to victory against Hampton (2-3). Travis Thompson caught two scoring passes while Jordan Stancovich ran for two more.
Mohawk 20, Hopewell 15 — Nicholas Wheeler threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns to lead Class 2A Mohawk (2-2) to the win against Class 3A Hopewell (3-2). Nathan McCutcheon caught five passes for 144 yards and an 85-yard touchdown. Mason Colvin ran for 101 yards for Hopewell.
Seton-La Salle 37, Serra Catholic 7 — Lionel Deanes rushed for 258 yards and four touchdowns and caught a 25-yard pass for another score as Class 3A No. 3 Seton-La Salle (4-0) beat Class 2A Serra Catholic (3-2). Evan Honick threw for 110 yards and Serra Catholic's lone touchdown.
Trinity 62, Blackhawk 34 — Joey Koroly ran 35 times for 358 yards and three touchdowns to lead Trinity (2-2) to the nonconference win at Blackhawk (1-3). Karoly added a receiving touchdown and Dylan Kern threw for 171 yards. Kenny Gawley ran for 106 yards and three touchdowns and caught a 49-yard pass from Payton Stewart for another score to lead Blackhawk's offense. Stewart threw for 202 yards.
