There is less than a week left in section play in WPIAL girls basketball. The top four teams in each section qualify for the district playoffs. All teams tied for a playoff spot in which head-to-head does not break the tie all qualify for the postseason.

Trib HSSN’s exclusive coverage of the 2019 WPIAL girls basketball playoffs begins with the Basketball Playoff Pairings Show on Feb. 12.

Here’s a look at the WPIAL girls basketball playoff picture:

Class 6A is set.

In Section 1-5A, West Allegheny is still alive and must win out and hope that South Fayette loses. Moon is out because of head-to-head with South Fayette or in a three-way tie. Winner of Latrobe at Penn-Trafford on Friday is in from Section 3-5A.

In Section 1-4A, Apollo-Ridge is close to clinching while Knoch, Greensburg Salem and Indiana are all alive. The winner of Quaker Valley at Ambridge on Thursday is in from Section 2-4A.

Mohawk needs one more section win or an Ellwood City section loss to clinch in Section 1-3A. Ellwood City is in if there’s a three-way tie with Mohawk and Beaver Falls. One more Beth-Center section win or a McGuffey section loss eliminates McGuffey in Section 2-3A.

Sto-Rox has one-game lead over Aliquippa for a playoff spot in Section 1-2A. If they tie, both teams qualify. Winchester Thurston and Riverview tied for the final playoff spot in Section 2-2A. Winchester Thurston is at Ellis School on Thursday and Riverview visits Springdale. Both qualify if they remain tied. Burgettstown and Chartiers-Houston are both 5-5, a half-game in front of Fort Cherry at 5-6 for the final two playoff spots in Section 3-2A.

Mapletown is at Monessen on Tuesday for the final playoff spot in Section 2-A.
