WPIAL playoffs roundup for Feb. 21: Uniontown upsets No. 5 Central Valley in 1st round

Trenton Uphold had 22 points and Billy Deshields scored 15 as No. 12 Uniontown upset No. 5 Central Valley, 59-57, in a WPIAL Class 4A boys basketball first-round game Wednesday at Peters Township.
Kam Fitzgerald added 12 points for the Red Raiders (14-9), who will face No. 4 Indiana (17-5) in the quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Gateway.
Josh Kline had 27 points for Central Valley (14-8).
Ambridge 62, Deer Lakes 56 — The No. 6 Bridgers rallied from a seven-point second-half deficit to post a Class 4A first-round victory at Fox Chapel. Monterey Carpenter hit five 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points for Ambridge (13-9), while Liam Buck added 20 points and Aaron Hilzendeger scored 13. Jack Hollibaugh led No. 11 Deer Lakes (12-10) with 15 points, and Jared Colton added 14, hitting four 3-pointers.
The Bridgers will play No. 3 Belle Vernon (17-5) in the quarterfinals at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at West Allegheny.
Valley 76, South Park 69 — The Vikings (14-4) won their first playoff game in nine seasons as Dru Stokes scored 22 points and Deonte Ross had 21 at North Hills. The Eagles (12-10) were led by Devin Turner’s 15 points and nine rebounds.
Valley will play No. 1 Quaker Valley (22-0) in the quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Geneva.
Girls basketball
Avonworth 67, South Allegheny 30 — Hayden Robinson scored a game-high 24 points as No. 5 Avonworth rolled to a WPIAL Class 3A first-round victory at Fox Chapel. Kathryn Goetz added 12 points and Hunter Robinson 10 for the Antelopes (16-7), who advanced to play No. 4 Mohawk in the quarterfinals Saturday at Canon-McMillan. Alyssa Minerd scored 12 points to lead South Allegheny (12-9).
Laurel 45, South Side 33 — Caroline Gibson had 18 points to lead No. 9 Laurel (13-10) to a WPIAL Class 3A first-round win at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic. Laurel, which held a 28-8 lead at halftime, will play No. 1 Bishop Canevin at 5 p.m. Saturday at Geneva in the quarterfinals.
Seton LaSalle 50, Riverside 48 — Alyssa Pollice had 19 points and Layni Ziegler added 18 as No. 10 Seton LaSalle (10-13) earned a WPIAL Class 3A first-round victory at North Hills.
The Rebels had a 33-24 advantage in the second half. They will play No. 2 East Allegheny (22-0) in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gateway.
Marley Wolf had 19 points and Lauren Bettencourt added 17 for No. 7 Riverside (14-9).
