A couple of early season homecoming games doubled the Week Three Saturday schedule of game sin the WPIAL from two to four. The road teams ruined the spirit of the day for a couple of Mon Valley schools in McKeesport and South Allegheny, while home teams Riverview and Bishop Canevin were victorious in their normal Saturday gig. Here are the four standouts from those contests.

Brett Laffoon – Penn-Trafford

In an early season showdown for the top seat in the Class AAAA Foothills Conference, the Penn-Trafford defense came up large in shutting down the McKeesport flex-bone running attack. But when P-T had the ball, quarterback Brett Laffoon was shining bright, hitting on 10 of 11 passes for 197 yards and a pair of 31-yard scoring strikes to Tim Vecchio along with a 3-yard insurance run to pay dirt as the Warriors blanked the Tigers 28-0.

Tre’won Marshall – Quaker Valley

Running on the ground or catching balls through the air, Tre’won Marshall was the perfect tre-threat…errr, triple-threat Quaker Valley needed in a key Class AA Century Conference game at venerable Glassport Stadium. Marshall ran for 121 yards and scored on a 3-yard plus, plus he had over 100 yards in receptions, including touchdown catches of 18, 11 and 87 yards from Amos Luptak AND recovered a fumble as the Quakers rolled to a 35-7 victory over the South Allegheny Gladiators.

Reed Relosky – Bishop Canevin

In a hard-fought defensive struggle all night long, Bishop Canevin quarterback Reed Relosky picked a good time to get hot. Relosky completed 12 of 21 passes for 129 yards and scored the games first touchdown in the first quarter score, then with just over two minutes remaining, the senior led the Crusaders down the field for a score and hit Austin Liebro for the game deciding two-point conversion in a 14-13 Class A Black Hills Conference win over the visiting Northgate Flames.

Nasan Tibbens – Riverview

While we offer a tip of the cap to Riverview quarterback Tyler Nigro who rushed for 143 yards, the bulk of the damage done on the ground for the black and gold was by Nasan Tibbens. The sophomore back rushed for 256 yards and scored three touchdowns on lengthy scampers of 54, 28 and 63 yards as the host Raiders picked up their first victory of the year and first win for Coach Jason Cappa in a 35-0 whitewash of the Carmichaels Mighty Mikes in a Class A non-conference matchup.
