Few were optimistic on Sunday that the softball playoffs would indeed start on time with a dreary Monday forecast. However nine of the thirteen Class AAAA and Class A games were played to lift the curtain on the 2011 WPIAL Softball Playoffs, which included three eye-brow raisers and the fall of the defending Class A champs. Here are recaps from the nine game on MSA Sports from day one of the district softball postseason.

Thanks to Randy Gore, Jonathan Whaley, Bob Gregg, Bobby Fox and Jason Tennant for their help on these recaps.

WPIAL CLASS AAAA FIRST ROUND:

Peters Township Indians 3 – North Allegheny Tigers 1
Behind the pitching of junior Tara Konopka and the timely hitting of Katie Makowski, the Peters Township Indians held off the North Allegheny Lady Tigers for a 3-1 first round victory in Class AAAA.
