WPIAL to hold hearing for Imani, Jeannette football

Imani Christian and Jeannette must meet this week with the WPIAL Board of Directors and explain the issues that forced officials to end their football game early.
The WPIAL scheduled a Wednesday afternoon hearing at the district office in Green Tree to talk with administrators and coaches from the two schools. Their Class A Eastern Conference contest was halted Saturday with 4 minutes, 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter when some upset Imani players approached the Jeannette sideline after a kickoff.
There also was a half-hour delay earlier in the fourth quarter when officials ejected a fan for derogatory comments. The game was paused until Wilkinsburg police arrived at Graham Field, which Imani uses for home games. At various points, a plastic bottle was thrown toward Jeannette's bench and a couple of fans raced onto the field.
Jeannette, which led 54-36 before the last stoppage, will be awarded the victory, WPIAL executive director Tim O'Malley said. The teams combined for 341 yards on 37 penalties. Imani had five players ejected.
