Making the PIAA Class AAA track and field championships in Shippensburg is one thing, but placing in the top eight is something else.

When you compete and want to earn a medal at the state meet, you have to be at your best because of the talent.

Penn-Trafford senior Cam Elma and junior Evan McAllister didn't have their best days May 25 and 26, but they were able to experience being among the best athletes in Pennsylvania.

Elma, who qualified in the shot put at the WPIAL meet May 17 with a throw of 51 feet, 1 inch, threw 47-11 at the state meet and didn't make the championship flight.

McAllister also had a better throw at WPIALs.

He hit 149-0 at Baldwin, but only hit 133 at the PIAA championships. He will have another chance to compete next season.
