WPIAL wrestling trio finishes high at national event

Pine-Richland freshman Cole Spencer, Norwin sophomore Kurtis Phipps and Franklin Regional junior Colton Camacho placed high at the National High School Coaches Association championships this weekend at Virginia Beach.

Spencer placed second in the 152-pound weight class.

He dropped a 2-1 decision to Mifflin County's Trey Kibe at 106 pounds. Spencer placed seventh in the PIAA championships.

Phipps, who placed second in the PIAA tournament, finished third. He defeated Hunter Adriana of Massachusetts, 7-1.

Camacho, one of five Franklin Regional wrestlers competing, placed third at 126.

He defeated Jackson Currier of Montana, 4-1. Camacho was a PIAA runner-up and WPIAL champion.
