2014 WPIAL CLASS AAA BOYS SINGLES TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:

Adam Blasinsky (Pittsburgh Central Catholic) over Chad Kissell (Latrobe) 6-2, 7-5  (MSA)

Central Catholic’s Adam Blasinsky successfully defended his Class AAA singles title on Tuesday, as the senior ousted Greater Latrobe’s Chad Kissell in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Blasinsky, who will play tennis at Duquesne next year, overcame an early deficit to take the first set, and then outlasted Kissell in a tightly-contested second set. Blasinsky also defeated Chris Gladden, Ben Vinarski and Rochan Ramesh on Monday en route to back-to-back championships. For the second straight year, Kissell’s dreams were dashed by the same opponent, as he fell 10-2 to the Vikings’ standout in the 2013 quarterfinals. Both players advance to the PIAA championships.

WPIAL CLASS AAA Consolation:

Michael Santa-Lucia (Pittsburgh Central Catholic) over Chris Gladden (Canon-McMillan) 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (7-2)  (MSA)

Another Central Catholic athlete prevailed on Tuesday, as Michael Santa-Lucia defeated Chris Gladden of Canon-McMillan 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (7-2). The matchup was the most evenly-contested and physically demanding of the day, as the players exchanged winners for more than two hours before the Vikings’ senior finally prevailed.
