Sixteen WPIAL girls lacrosse players were honored by USA Lacrosse earlier this week with postseason honors.

Players were named All-American and All-Academic by the USA Lacrosse organization.

Mars senior midfielder McKenna Merritt was named the Jackie Pitts award winner, which recognizes players who go above and beyond in service to their team, school and community. She helped Mars win its second straight WPIAL Class 2A title and third in four years.

Merritt’s Mars teammates, senior midfielder Mya Cote and junior goalie Ella Roach, were tabbed All-Americans, along with Fox Chapel senior midfielder Sydney Schutzman, Mt. Lebanon senior midfielder Addison Murdoch, Peters Township junior midfielder Emma Kail, Pine-Richland junior midfielder Madeline Mill, Quaker Valley sophomore midfielder Lucy Roig and Upper St. Clair junior midfielder Anna Capobres.

Schutzman, Cote, Murdoch and Kail were also honored last season on the All-American team. Murdoch was picked in 2022 as well.

Picked to the USA Lacrosse All-Academic team were Chartiers Valley junior goalie Kaitlyn Kuczinski, Hampton senior midfielder Sienna Rex, Mars’ Merritt, Mt. Lebanon senior defender Grace Goslin, Penn-Trafford senior attack Sophia Green, Peters Township senior defender Ella Neupaver and midfielder Grace Kail and Sewickley Academy senior midfielder Libby Eannarino.
