The final Saturday of September in the 2011 high school football season saw two Class AA and three Class A conference tilts. If you do the math, the light schedule gives us a perfect five games to select five top performances. Math makes me dizzy, much like these players Saturday made their opponents feel.

Sean McCausland – Summit Academy
Nearing the half way point of the regular season and Summit Academy is tied for first place in the Class AA Allegheny Conference?  Yeah, that’s right. Part of the reason for the success in Herman is the left arm of quarterback Sean McCausland, who was 8 of 12 passing for 188 yards three touchdown passes of 17, 54 and 37 yards as the Knights handed the West Shamokin Wolves their 38th consecutive loss in a 4014 victory at The Academy.

Christian Herstine – Beaver
In a showdown of unbeaten teams in the Class AA Midwestern Conference and in front of a big Homecoming crown on Saturday night, Christian Herstine was getting it done on both sides of the ball for Beaver. Herstine was 7 of 10 passing for 104 yards and a 50 yards touchdown pass in the second half, plus he started the scoring for the Bobcats with a 49-yard interception return for a score in a 24-7 victory over the visiting Ellwood City Wolverines.

Isaiah Neely – Our Lady of the Sacred Heart
This Isaiah may not be able to play the prophet, but he can tote the pigskin. Isaiah Neely rushed for 142 yards and scored four touchdowns on runs of 31, 10, 1 and 1 as Our Lady of the Sacred Heart beat the Wilkinsburg Tigers at historic Graham Field Saturday afternoon by a score of 37-12, giving the Chargers only their second win in program history AND their first Class A Eastern Conference triumph.

Dustin Conti and Curtis Shawn – Jefferson-Morgan
Coaches will tell you all the time that being versatile is a big pus on the gridiron. Both Dustin Conti and Curtis Shawn proved Saturday afternoon that when it comes to scoring touchdowns, they’ll do whatever it takes. Conti rushed for 133 yards and scored on a 74-yard run AND on defense with a fumble recovery in the end zone while Shawn scored on a 75-yard run AND on a 90-yard kickoff return as the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets soared past the host Geibel Gators 49-13 in a Tri-County South Conference matchup.

Dustin Creel – Western Beaver
Dustin Creel struck early in often in this Saturday primetime battle for a shareof first place in the Class A Big Seven Conference. Creel finished with 133 yards on the ground with two touchdowns, both coming in the opening quarter on a 46-yard run and on a 13-yard pass from Eric Blinn (the two later hooked up one a two-point conversion as well) as visiting Western Beaver jumped out to a 38-8 lead by halftime and cruised to a 46-24 decision over the host Shenango Wildcats in the Golden Beavers first road game of the season.
