After the departure of such offensive standouts as Tre Tipton and Duane Brown, Apollo-Ridge coach John Skiba assured the Apollo-Ridge faithful everything would be all right.

Running back Logan Harmon proved Skiba to be correct so far. Used sparingly in Apollo-Ridge's Week Zero win over Leechburg, the 5-foot-8, 190-pound freshman bruiser rushed for 89 yards and scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards in a 34-21 victory over Deer Lakes to reassure Apollo-Ridge (2-0, 1-0) fans there is indeed another playmaker in the Vikings' pipeline.

“I told (Tre) Tipton about these guys in the summer and said Logan's name is going to be one people in Apollo-Ridge won't forget,” said Skiba.

Harmon has a knack for contact. He ranks second on the team in rushing yards (104) and tied for first in touchdowns (2). He also starts at middle linebacker in the Vikings' 4-3 defensive scheme and is tied for first on the team with six solo tackles and second in total tackles (12) through two games.

“There's a toughness there that's ingrained. You can work him and he'll never complain,” Skiba said. “He's a throwback. A kid every coach wants to coach.”

What's your favorite position, running back or linebacker?

It's probably linebacker. I love to tackle.

What is your best attribute as a running back?

To be honest, probably my legs.

What are your thoughts on varsity football compared to middle school football?

Varsity is definitely a lot more faster-paced and a lot more work. It's a different game.

How has wrestling helped you in football?

It helps me a lot, especially on defense. In wrestling, we do a lot of takedowns and it helps me a lot on defense.

Are you more of wrestler or a football player?

I love them both. I'd have to go football. Football is where it's at.

What's it going to take to get a win at Beaver Falls (0-1) this Friday?

Beaver Falls is a great team, and they beat us last year. I think we need to work as a unit on offense and to work the ball down the field. I think we need to work as a unit to stop them on defense.

Which conference game do you have circled on your schedule?

Valley or Keystone Oaks. They beat us last year, and they just look good.

What's the one thing Apollo-Ridge needs to do to reach the playoffs?

We're a young football team, and we need to work together and be smart on the football field since we're young.

Why do you wear the No. 44?

In middle school I chose it and I decided to carry it out through high school.

Who is your favorite football player?

Luke Kuechly.

What are your favorite college and NFL football teams?

Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt.

Who has the best nickname on the team?

Probably Kyle's little brother, Klay Fitzroy. We call him “Fitzy”.
