As the WPIAL prepares for Final Four Friday and Championship Saturday this weekend, it’s also time to merge the district and state football playoffs.
The journey to Cumberland Valley and the 2025 PIAA football playoffs kick off this weekend.
Most districts will be hosting their championship or semifinals Friday or Saturday, while other district champions have been crowned and the focus is now on state gold.
Already two state champions from a year ago did not even qualify for the PIAA postseason tournament: Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast in Class 4A and three-time defending champ St. Joseph’s Prep in Class 6A.
That leaves Bishop McDevitt in 5A, Northwestern Lehigh in 3A, Troy in 2A and Bishop Guilfoyle Academy in A still alive in search of a repeat performance.
The PIAA championships at Chapman Field at Cumberland Valley High School will take place Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 4-6.
