HERSHEY — For the second consecutive day at the Giant Center, Burgettstown allowed too many pins and was eliminated from the PIAA Class 2A team tournament Friday.

Montoursville, the District 4 runner-up, defeated WPIAL runner-up Burgettstown, 42-24, in a consolation-round bout. The Blue Devils won six bouts, but gave up seven pins. The Blue Devils lost to District 9 champion Clearfield in the first round Thursday.

Turning point: Montoursville’s David Kennedy pinned Burgettstown’s Dylan Slovick at 127 pounds. The pin gave Montoursville extra bonus points in a close match.

Coach’s thoughts: “For the second consecutive day we were outgunned,” Burgettstown coach Joey Vigliotti said. “Bonus points were the difference. They were able to get them and we did not. When our big guns didn’t get bonus points, we needed others to step up.”

Up next: Burgettstown will host the Section 1-2 individual qualifier Feb. 17.
