WPIAL Baseball Realignment for 2013 and 2014 Seasons

WPIAL baseball will have a bit of a symmetrical look to it for the next two years after the district Board of Control approved the new realignment for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. There will be more sections in each class with fewer teams in each section in all four classifications. With the magnificent weather we've had, it's tough to believe that the winter sports season is still going on. However high school basketball and hockey postseason play concludes this week as we officially kiss winter goodbye and welcome in spring here on the MSA Sports Network. The first full week of March concludes one winter scholastic sport with the state championships while another winter high school sports tips off its state playoff this week here on the MSA Sports Network. 2011 has been a tremendous year in high school sports in the WPIAL. It was a year where some familiar champions wore the golden crown again while some new faces surfaced in the championship picture. Joe Colella, who was the head coach at Hopewell High School for nearly five decades, passed away Sunday. The cause of death has not been released. Colella finished his 48th year as head coach of the Vikings this past spring.Scholastic Notebook – 09/02/2011

Aaron Pribanic's six innings of one-run ball combined with a four-run first inning was enough to lift the Curve to a, 5-1, series-opening win over the Bowie Baysox on Monday night at Prince George's Stadium.
